I've always though there should be some sort of "knowledge test" implemented so you can't vote unless you're aware of the facts, how the system works and of what you're voting for. Too many people vote uninformed and emotionally.
But I know this would have way too much potential to abuse, and cause a lot of outrage too. Don't plan on voting anytime soon myself though.
[–]supermario21829 points30 points31 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That will never happen because the less informed the people are, the more politicians can get away with. They love uniformed voters who vote by popularity and bribes, not for conviction or belief
[–]-Ecliptic-2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
They love stupid single issue voters.

[–]ObjectiveAnything1 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, remember all that shit with Hillary during the elections? All these retarded big celebrities and media outlets saying "it's the first woman president! Finally! You have to vote for her!" They were literally making people vote for her just because she is female, it's fucked up, but majority of people are way too fucking stupid.
[–]Chill-BL14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I agree with restricting the vote to more requirements than just being an adult. but intelligence shouldn't be the determining factor.
Enough "smart" (at least smart considered by the majority) people advocate for socialism.
The system needs to reward the people that are paying in to it.
[–]DDdms11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The problem with such a system would be "who's judging"? I mean, it's a "who watches the watchmen" kind of situation.
I think a much simpler test would give outstanding results, like a reading comprehension test, a logic test, basic math test. These are objective things, not opinable. It may sound silly, but I always assume people are dumber than they really are (me included), so I don't get disappointed later in time. You have no idea how many adults and young adults have problems understanding a simple text. And these people shouldn't be eligible for voting, IMO.
[–]FlourishedCass3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This makes sense. I mean you need a licence to drive, so why not for making decisions about who heads a global powerhouse, how it should spend trillions of dollars, and how it influences billions of people's lives.
[–]VisibleTheory1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Jim Crow laws will be the argument against any extra step to vote.
[–]DDdms1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. It's a matter of functional illiteracy, and people like this shouldn't be allowed to take any responsibility whatsoever.
[–]Disbursed-operant2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I was always a fan of the starship trooper model. "Service guarantees citizenship".
[–]boytjie1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That seems the most rational. I always wondered why it was never implemented. It wouldn’t exclude anyone and would give the country a standing mass of young people (earning their citizenship) who could be cheaply deployed for civic duties.

Question to be allowed to vote:
a) Give single moms free stuff.
b) Provide jobs by inventing more bureaucracy and making laws and regulations more complicated.
c) Keep illegal immigrants out, maintain law and order, and finance public goods like infrastructure.
d) Ruin my ex-husband's life, take all his stuff and give it to me.
[–]cjekaf1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You’re assuming that people are going by the same information. We don’t even have that now.
[–]peteteat0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thinks there should be an entrance test to voting because some people are undeserving of that right Doesn't even exercise that right
Thinks there should be an entrance test to voting because some people are undeserving of that right
Doesn't even exercise that right
So I'm gonna guess you probably wouldn't pass your own entrance test lmfao.
Don't know why my choice on whether to vote would have any impact on my ability to pass a test but ok .
I'm based in the UK and it's a bit of a shit show at the minute. The reason I'm likely not going to vote is because there won't be any satisfactory options. Besides, abstentions are still counted.
[–]lunamunmun130 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We presented this option in my history class and my teacher daid something along the lines of "how would you test it, what would be considered stupid, and how many people woyld decide it's too much of a hassle?"
[–]ILoveJuices 39 points40 points41 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Because Woodrow Wilson was a piece of shit who let a group of bankers privatize the central bank of America, creating the federal reserve. This gave them complete control over the money supply in 1913 and therefore everything else in America. The only presidents to stand up to them since have been JFK and Trump.
[–]WoodrowWilsonSux3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]marketing-issues 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because we spend all our money on:
And it's very hard to convince people to cut either of those 3 things.

So i'm just waiting for the US Dollar to fail.
P.S. I'm glad we have Bitcoin.

I heard once that specific characteristic of successful investor is being in debt. I'm not an economist but maybe the point is that you are so good with money and shit so you can borrow money, put them to use and get lots of income so you can pay out debt, cover interest and still be in profit. And once you tested this approach and satisfied with results, you can borrow money from others and create assets that cost much more, therefore you can simultaneously be the most rich and powerful and be in debt, borrowing more and creating more because you know the game. I don't know if it is true, but anyway calling debt a bad feature without taking into account world economic system and role of your country in it seems quite shallow and appeal to emotional sphere because this sum just seems a huge amount of cash for reader in person.

22 trillion dollars, so easy to say. Then look at it as a number. $22,000,000,000,000. http://www.usdebtclock.org/
I can't exactly shout, as the UK national debt http://www.nationaldebtclock.co.uk/ ain't looking pretty either.
[–]CCCrunchy3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
imagine being a political twitter account and not knowing anything about the economy (the og tweet not the reply)
[–]RPDunkleBomb0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Right? Do people not know that government "debt" is literally issued as bonds and countries/individuals buy those bonds, as a store of value that they expect to outpace alternatives?
Healthy bond issuance and fed interest rates are used as tools to keep fiat in balance. But fuck it, let's just all pretend that's one big ass auto loan?
[–]Throwawayhell11111 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
This is not mgtow.
[–]AxeMill-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Still related.
[–]Throwawayhell11110 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
what? how?
[–]liberteus0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Women are a majority of voters, majority of civil servants, emotionally driven, constantly vote more to the left them men. They're net recipient of taxes through longer lives, healthcare as well. Once you give women voting rights you're toast.
[–]Throwawayhell11110 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So..... men should not vote. Or vote more?
Right to vote is a human right. Your choice to not exercise that right is your choice.
[–]liberteus1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I didn't say men shouldn't vote. I said women vote countries into debt servitude on the back of working men.
Edit: this is mgtow because thru the state women are enslaving men further.
[–]Throwawayhell11110 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You make a good argument.
[–]jamocadyn1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I still remember the sound bite of a woman (I'm assuming Black from her accent and patois) who was so happy Obama had been elected as president. She literally said "I don't have to worry about paying for gas in my car anymore..."
[–]38yearsoffreefallin0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I remember that. That soundbite got a bit of play on a few syndicated radio shows i listen to.

Starship troopers! Citizens can vote through the act of draft signup. Civilians cannot! Wooo
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Also we live in a debt economy, in order for the powerful people who run the federal reserve and central banking system to have more power they design the system to incur more debt so why would the politicians try to reduce debt when they are owned my lobbyist corporations who are then owned by non-commercial banks.
[–]38yearsoffreefallin0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
In America money is debt. The fact that we are charged interest to put money in circulation. We will never pay off the debt ever as long as the Federal Reserve exists. We will just keep passing the buck to future generations.
[–]Gemini47860 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So much talk of ways to prove voting eligibility. Anyone in here unironically want the Starship Troopers method?
[–]U-940 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's actually a problem with fraud in the DoD and black budget programs but the voting doesn't help.

[–]IncendiaryBullet-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No. A society that has both government sponsored discrimination and slavery is only free in name.

I don't need to make any "points". I have better things to do than argue with white knights. Go pick up an argument with another "sad loser/incel" from this sub. Proceed at your own caution though, they are not as patient as me and they wouldn't have any problem roasting your cuck ass to oblivion.
