What is usually a straightforward procedure can come with very serious side effects that people like to downplay and even suggest aren't real in extreme cases.

There are a number of nerves that run through the area and complications with any of them can cause lifelong pain from your knees to your rib cage, and especially your stomach, mainly due to muscular issues within your pelvis that are incredibly difficult to treat with physiotherapy.

The area is full of unusual soft tissue and an injury to them is difficult to find in imaging, and doctors will be very reluctant to help you given the proximity to your penis.

Vasectomy can cause you erectile issues and hormonal issues. Issues with your erection will often be risregarded as "in your head", as despite a seeming wealth of knowledge, male urology issues are under studied and poorly understood.

I know they aren't likely, but they are possible and every man deserves to know about these issues given how cavalier doctors are about the problems when they arise.

Physician here. I haven't had one but what I saw the procedure is rather straightforward and quick. The urologist first gives you a reconsideration time. Painful? I'd say no. I heard patients complain about a bit sore feeling but not real painful. One thing: you're not immediately sterile.

I have had one.

Procedure was very fast. Approximately 10-15 minutes. Pain was almost non existent during and after. I’ve had flu shots that hurt more.

I iced it for that day, as instructed. Sat around, watched movies. Next day, minimal discomfort. Day after that, nothing.

I would do it again 100 times out of 100.

Got mine done two years ago. Being in my mid 40s with two kids already, I figured it was cheap insurance against a future lapse in judgement.

The procedure was quick and no fanfare. Hell, I drove home after it was done. It took about a week to fully recover.

Australian here ,. ours are free .

Only cost is the specialist appointment and doctors appointment to get the referral.Couple of follow up appointments to check it all went well and go through your test results.So maybe a couple hundred dollars all up.

All up , no pain , half day in hospital , knocked out , two little incisions , about a week for a full recovery , told to get 15 or more shots off , and then blow in a jar for a test sample.

Worst was the itching of the sutures for a day or so on the ballsack.

Didnt hurt much. Insurance paid the total bill. No deductible. Recovery - 2 days sitting in a comfortable chair with a bag of frozen veg on my crotch. Best thing I ever did.

Doesn't hurt. Piece of cake. Just (told to) put ice pack on your balls a couple days. Just plan to relax. Can't speak to the expense, i had medical plan that took care of it.

P.S. To make sure I was clear, once healed after a couple days, I rubbed one out everyday for a month whether I felt like it or not, just to clear the tube out. So when I went in to get my sperm count, I was certain I clear. When I went in, I had zero count, they said I didn't need to come back in again to have it checked. Apparently their is a history of rare cases when it's grown together again, due to incorrect procedures. But I think they are more stringent in their surgeries now.

minor discomfort, as long as you can keep kids/pets from jumping in your lap. soreness for a few days, typically. most health insurance covers it, you can have it done with a local anesthetic at a clinic and be home in an hour. good excuse to make everyone leave you alone while you relax with vidya and a bag of frozen peas on your nards.

ed: as others have noted, it's important to follow up and make sure you are really shooting blanks. about six weeks after the procedure you just visit another clinic with a fresh spank sample and drop it off, they'll mail you the results to confirm you are now sterile. Keep a copy of that letter to toss in a skanks' face if/when she tries to babytrap you. .

I paid 250 of the best spent dollars ever. They told me to stay sedentary with an ice pack for 24 hours.

20 minutes of sitting around with frosty-dong, I got sick of it and went out to dinner then played beer pong with some buddies. I walked kind of funny, but it wasn't bad at all.

I had one done. The painful parts are the first injection of local anasthesis and soreness afterwards. The procedure itself isn’t bad at all.

Costs a few hundred depending on insurance.

To begin with, expect a survey with some basic info. Some physicians don't want to do it if you haven't had kids because some people have changed their minds later and sued. Just shop around for another doc if that's the case and you are sure.

They will schedule you.

The day of the operation, you probably want someone to drive you over just in case. Also, shave your junk. It's a courtesy to the doc and helps you too so that the doc isn't trying to wade through your crotch fro while doing the cuts. They numb everything up with a local anesthetic and do the snip. You get some gauze and instructions on after care, generally to keep everything clean.

At this point you are still firing live ammo, though. It takes about a month for all the live sperm to clear out of your system, maybe less if you have sex or wank a lot.

The clinic should schedule you for two tests to see if you have sperm in your ejaculate. After both of those are negative, you should be good to go. It's worth noting that there is a very small chance that the tubes can grow back together, though.
