I've heard that "give it time" crap, too.

Back when I was 16, I won't forget...I was at the mall, out with my first girlfriend. We sat to take a break from the walking, and a guy at the bench next to us was dealing with his wife who was nagging and practically abusing him in front of everyone. The guy glances at me, and quietly said "don't ever get married. They eventually turn into this."

Though it didn't hit me until my late 20's (I'm 28 now), wherever he is, I thank him.

I'm mexican american and one hispanic lady at work tried to set me up with her 16 year old daughter, she showed me pictures and shit, trying to pimp her daughter on me!? She said " only because I like you". I was like wtf lady, this isn't the middle east! Creeped me the fuck out!

a friend of mine told me recently his current wife (his second) is "the best wife ever", and that I should find myself a wife because its awesome being married. One month later, that same friend tells me he's thinking of killing himself (probably not seriously). But you get my point.

"Yes, you should too and you'll see what I'm talking about."

One time I had a similar discussion and gave him a similar remark. Not 15 minutes later I see his wife giving him grief about something and the guy rolls his eyes. I then manage to catch his attention from about 10 feet away and I grin and give him a thumbs up. I think I saw his spirit get crushed right in front of me.

Old people just don't get it. He probably secured his wife directly after the WW2 era when women still had some semblance of hope and the courts hadn't yet fully interfered with their agenda to break down marriage. I'm sure his wife, though she may be a nag or perhaps even physically abusive, holds some "old world views" like, oh say, it's wrong to whore around and then blame an innocent man when you face the consequences, so that's good enough for old Mexican dude.

He probably meant well but in this day and age no matter where they're from, western feminism is like a biological airborne weapon it'll affect any female that crosses US border.

True story. Hispanic coworker says when his Grandparents come to USA to stay for a few weeks or more, his Grandmother gets more and more nasty/bitchy from hanging with American women and starts challenging his Grandfather with shit tests.

He says his Grandfather says the same thing every time she tries to test him:

"We'll talk about it when we get home."

Confirmed. I come from a working class deep red state family. Guns and religion. Everybody gets married, everybody has kids, everybody is the exact same evangelical denomination. All except one of my aunts and uncles, my own parents, my first cousins, and many of my second cousins are divorced now. Sometimes multiple times. Kids spread all over the place. Oh, also everybody is fat and many are diabetic. I'm sure they're all cheering the upcoming Obamacare repeal. Really.

Marriage. It's important! You must do it! (but then divorce, because fuck it, who cares?)

The best part of marriage is when she is desperately trying to get you to propose. The sales brochure is off the chart. Actually getting married ruins it because she has you trapped and doesn't have to pretend anymore.
