I mean nothing's stopping you from going and living in the woods if that's what really makes you happy. I suggest learning some very basic skills like building a fire and a shelter first though. Also you're going to have a really bad time with things like parasites, weather, being shit at hunting, disease/sanitation, but hey.

It isn't lost, it's been taken. Where the bison once grazed there now is barbed wire and privately owned cattle. It's nearly impossible to find a reliable water source that hasn't been put in a concrete box. Based on the skeletons of human hunter gatherers they were much taller and stronger than the first farmers and the only reason farmers became more common is that more of their children reached reproductive age. Only with modern medicine and industrialized agriculture we've passed the average height of hunter gatherers but with increasing antibiotic resistance and soil destruction both of these wont last long term.

Ultimately the invention of agriculture created overpopulation, and overpopulation is at the center of all the world's problems. It's easy to dismiss this because hunter gather life is short and brutal but the modern goal of dying of old age and senility is far from painless.
