I hear it all the time. "my wife yelled at me because I got a new phone", "I hope my wife is OK with this".. And it's over dumb shit, like going bowling or something.

The "cause" varies, but in at least some instances it is a matter of a guy working construction or other "trades" where he puts in a lot of hours -- sometimes insane amounts (especially during certain seasons of the year, and often for many weeks even months) -- and by a LOT we're talking 60, even 80+ hours a week...

Getting to the bank, or frankly even having the energy to xfer money between accounts, or pay bills online... just isn't there; so the wife handles the stuff.

Add on that many men are just NOT that "savvy" with the math -- they're doubtless capable of it, it's just that they dread doing it -- and that is true not just of "tradesmen" but even quite a few college graduates, engineers, and yes IME (coworkers, etc) even computer programmers... they just dread/hate handling accounts, etc.

So, one result of that -- even ignoring the whole "who wears the pants" in the household -- is that they don't know what their budget/available cash (or credit card balances) are... unless/until they consult the "wife."

Its rather absurd... but it is in fact quite common.

I often hear guys say 'my wife would be mad if I spent that much money on .....' It's just a way to say they don't want to spend the money but they don't have the balls to tell you.

Of course some guys really are controlled by their wives. One dude at my work was given a $40 a week allowance from his wife even though he brought in a grand a week and her a couple hundred. We really busted his balls about it but he honestly didn't care, he said he doesn't have to worry about paying the bills this way

One of my coworkers always referrers to his wife as "the Government". This of course trying to be funny. But then he would be ordered around and just taking it. Self-deprecating humor is a defense mechanism I guess.

Normal seems to be the right word as in it is common. Does that make it right? No, but that's the way it is for some men. I'm sure those same men never have a say in what their wives spend their money on though.

What's causing this behavior? Tolerance to the hardship that is living with and interacting with females is my answer. We were built to deal with hardship as men, in all its forms.

My buddy was like that. Brought the $$ home and just wife take care of all the bills. Except he couldn’t Figure out why they just weren’t putting any dents into their CC debt. Till he caught her cheating and kicked her out. Paid it all off within a year. She was siphoning money out and cuz he trusted her never even thought to verify where the money is going.

I’ve always done my finances even when living with my ex for 9 years.

I usually did this voluntarily, I made the money and I gave like 70% for the house, bills, food, etc... I just wanted to get the "responsabilities" done... however, I did spend money however the fuck I wanted, if one day I wanted to buy something for me I'd just buy it, I didn't need "the boss" permission, I was the provider therefore I could buy anything I wanted, it was my money, I think the problem lies when men do not explicitly tell women they are not the owner of the money, they are just the administrator, as soon as the woman even implies something like "that's too expensive, that's too much" that the very moment where you tell her to fuck off and that's your money you spend it however you want.

In my country this was the "rule", man made money, gave the woman half of the shit to upkeep the cost of the house + food + anything the kids may need for school, the rest was for him to bet on horse racing, to have a few beers the weekends, but back in the days men still showed women their place, you can have the money but not the authority, nowadays women are so fucking loud and annoying that they don't even deserve the money and they believe they have some "authority", but yeah asking for your wife's permission is a faggy thing to do, unless she's the one providing

Every single one of those men has had a woman take over his life one transaction at a time. It went from buying her dinner and show tickets to buying her cars and houses. He has been trained, much like a kicked puppy, that there will be pain if she is not the master of all decisions, especially where money is concerned.

I used to handle my own finances then when I moved in with my now Wife, she slowly began handling the finances, one bill here and there. Now, after being married a year and a half, I literally have no say in our budget. When I try to be more involved in it, she get's defensive like I'm saying she's not doing a good job. So I don't even bother because I simply don't want to go back n forth and have a meaningless argument. It's so bad now that if I even spend money on beer or something petty she will flip because I didn't "clear" it with her, even though she will buy clothes and get her hair done without telling me. Tired of being a simp so I'm working on my exit and getting the hell out of this. Not worth it.
