Why are women obsessed with reading?

Why don't you read? I read all the time. If you want to read, read. If you don't want to read, don't read. WTF is wrong with reading? What do you care how much people spend on their pastimes?

I agree with the above. Nothing wrong with reading. It’s the quality of content in which they read. They’re not reading anything of good nature or philosophical, anything that would be a good conversational piece. They’re reading the literature equivalent to 50 shades of gray.

I notice they are always reading fiction and romance novels and shit. And rarely will a see a female with a book cracked open that's halfway done or more.

They're not reading shit and even when they are they aren't internalizing anything. It's just a fleeting pleasure for them. My conjecture of course. When they say they read that many books what they really mean is they read a few pages and discard or something I bet. Or skim. All about appearances.

I love non-fiction: history, politics, philosophy, etc. Fiction is cool but I mean, we get enough entertainment on the tube and all that. Hardly even see a woman with a newspaper. They don't want to enrich the mind.

I have found exactly two.

One was a woman that had worked as an escort for quite a few years (at least 10) and while she wasn't "on the clock" , she talked in such a way where I could tell she was 'working'.... and I feel this is a huge admission of weakness but.... she had me eating out of the palm of her hand.

It's really hard to explain but she was physically attractive (obviously) but on top of that, her body language, words and tone all indicated sincere interest , which caused me to want to keep talking with her even though I knew that she was 'working'. Fuck, if women just put in a LITTLE bit of effort, it would be so easy...

The other is, interestingly enough, a director for the channel VICE. A girl about 10 years younger than me but that I've had a couple of simple "Coffee dates" with. I really like her in a way I have never liked another woman; As a friend. I want her as a friend... but she's hell bent on wanting more. Sigh. I think this is the part where I have to mention she is very unattractive....

Anyway, in general, the vast, VAST majority of women are utter shit at socializing. This is because in almost every scenario, they are not socializing, they are being socialized WITH. They don't actually have to do any work, that's why they are terrible at conversations.

Woman genuinely like to read books. Look at your mother and see if she reads. Mine does - my father won't touch a book. I picked up the habit from her and it turned me into a huge reader.

There's another issue which I think you're getting at. There's a lot of LARPing going on. Superficial vain women like to play up the book-reading as a way to inflate their cultural status points since they see books as symbolic to intellectuals (lmao). They read Harry Potter as a child (probably just that book), then now that they're in their 20s they want to loop around and appropriate bookworm culture (feeling justified with this appropriation because of having read a book before and enjoyed it) for their aesthetic. This is like a bookshop / coffee shop / instagram LARPing phenomenon. It's bizarre. They'll take photos of books. Everyone knows they don't really read that much. I mean if you read a lot, why the fuck do you think a picture of a book is significant of anything? There's books all over my room. There's a dozen books in my car. There's a dozen books in the trunk of my car! They're everywhere, why would I ever take a photo of one?

Don't be so hateful as to hit them all with those generalizations. Books are great. Let the few vain ones appropriate it all they want, good for them.

It is men who read real books, like Thus Spoke Zarasthura by Nietzsche, The Republic by Plato, Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky, while women read stupid novels like Fifty Shades of Grey, or some romantic bull.

Women read idiotic shit that doesn’t advance their intelligence AT ALL. They read romance novels, “Fifty Shades of Grey” (or Gray?...ah, who fucking cares?), and other time-wasting horseshit.

Any intelligent/logical person would look at it as a complete waste of time. If I’m going to expend the time and energy to read, you can be damn well sure it’s going to be on topics that make me smarter.

This all a load of bull, I grew up with a Dad who loved to read, specifically Economic journals, while my Mom despised readings. This reminds of women, when they say all men are this all men are that, quit being a soy boy, and actually read some real books.

Yeah I get that too. But I usually just counter with " I do, mostly car magazines, and repair manuals. Have you seen this months edition of Import Tuner? Bout time Toyota brought the Supra back." That usually leads to them bringing up some book. " Oh, I don't read those books"t he Hamster Spins, little bit of smoke comes out, and there goes the piston. :)
