Probable because when it comes to relationships ( aka Resources ) we are made of unobtainoum.When the typical hypergamous female wants a relationship she want's to be with someone she perceives that has higher value than her. That's either the Bad Boy, who lets her know she is of little value to him or the Chad, who because of looks, money, etc. has a easily demonstrated higher social value. How do we fit in? Most people are followers. They are told that women are all powerful, flawless creatures and that men must pay for what previous generations have done. Since we don't believe such nonsense, they see us as enemies.

Don't forget that these same people would agree with and follow whatever is currently in trend. Some of them are just passive, but many are active and very vocal in their upholding of the rules. Notice how they're always vocally supportive about battles that have already been won long ago: slavery, gay rights, women's liberties etc.

If you ask a random group of people today whether they would have been abolitionists back in the day, all of them would say yes. You need to figure out who these agreeable people are and ignore them because they will never have anything useful to say.
