I know you didn't say it, but marriage and monogamy aren't natural. They are very much a social construct. The reason those things came to exist and have been the norm for centuries/millennia is for a more stable society.
As we know, what's good for society isn't necessarily good for the individual. Average people (non-elites) used to understand that and did their part "for the greater good".
Some time in the past century, women abandoned their obligations to society in pursuit of individual freedoms, which left men to deal with the burden of running a functional society. Men (stupidly) allowed this to happen and kept on trucking as long as they got some ass once in a while.
So we transitioned from appreciating men for their efforts and sacrifices, to being indifferent about them. So why the shift? It's because the indifference turned into hostility and demonization.
Imagine you're in a life boat with a woman trying to get back to shore. You're doing all the rowing, while she's doing everything she can to support you and keep you going. Food, water, positive reinforcement, etc. After a while she stops doing those things, but you soldier on because you need to get back to shore. After a while, she pokes a hole in the hull and so now you're trying to row and bail water at the same time while she just sits there and watches. You're getting extremely tired, the boat is taking on water faster than you can bail it and your rowing speed has significantly decreased. You don't know how much longer you can keep this up for, but you're determined to keep going because you need to get back to shore. Now she starts yelling at you, hitting you and blaming you for causing the leak and being too slow at rowing.
Do you keep going, or do you say "You know what? You never helped me row, YOU caused the leak and aren't even trying to bail water, and now you're blaming me for it? Fuck this." and let the boat sink?
This is the decision all men face today.
