I recently started working in a fast food restaurant kitchen and at first, the environment was really chill and friendly. However nowadays I have had some interactions that made me realize the bs that have to deal with. (keep in mind my coworkers are about 80% female).

  1. 2 weeks ago, me and one of my female coworkers were working on two different stations of the kitchen. She was not busy at all as there were no orders on the screen, but she came up to me asking me to sweep the mess that she made at her station. I looked up at the screen, saw that she had nothing to do, but proceeded to take the broom that she handed me. But before i began sweeping I saw her leaning against the wall sipping on some juice while watching me work. I came to my senses, approached her and told her that she needs to sweep her own mess if she is not busy. The perplexed look on her face was priceless, but she eventually took the broom and dustpan from me and began to sweep her mess.
  2. Just yesterday, there was some downtime in the kitchen and the majority of us were just standing around with nothing to do. I was the only guy there doing nothing and about 5 women were just standing with nothing to do either. A female manager walks by us, slams her hand on the table shouting (in Spanish) "Get moving! Tell him he needs to find something to stay busy!". A different female manager points to me (the only male) and tells me to sweep and mop the whole kitchen, while all the girls stand there with absolutely nothing to do watching me sweep and mop, and no one tells them to do anything. We all have pretty much the same hourly wage.
