So at my med school (I live in Europe), we have this class called Human Studies, where they basically teach the more human related aspects of medicine. Basically an effort to ensure that you’re not a complete sociopath when you graduate from med school.
Often times there are debates as to how medicine as an entity can be affected by other societal forces, like politicians, tyrannical governments, stupid people in large numbers etc. And it is all in all a very interesting class.
Despite me being conservative and my friends (60% women) knowing this, they are actually quite open minded in accepting what I have to say and the points I wish to make. including stuff like gun control (I absolutely support guns), religion etc.
But now our professor announced that next week’s topic is about medicine and feminism and that a female teacher is gonna come teach these topics. And there most likely will be debates on them.
I don’t know how to approach this. and it’s too stupid to ask my ultra conservative parents.
Do I speak my mind, or do I shut up when they purport shit like “the boys are too scared to speak their minds in front of strong women like us”
I have anatomy practicals right after this class so I don’t know if arguing is the right solution.
