There's lots of Monasteries in the U.S. if you're into them. St. Joseph Abbey, Louisiana is famous, there's a bunch in Louisiana if you're into southern heat and history, then of course there's various Benedictine ones all over the place.

Just because I'm not wanting a relationship with any female, doesn't mean I don't want to enjoy the rest of what life has to offer. If you believe there is nothing more to existence than running after women and you're left with nothing to live for, if you turn away from it, that's a you-problem and like the complete antithesis to mgtow.

I enjoy vacations, spending money on stuff I enjoy, spending time with my friends, spending time on my hobbies. Why should I give that all away to just get away from women, if I can simply not bother about them and do whatever I like. Since I'm not even the slightest bit religious this would be a complete waste of my life.

Yes, I have actually considered being an art monk. Meaning, living off the land, getting closer to God, honing my art craft and letting go of women, material possessions and any stake in society. 💀🔥

I've long been curious about experiencing life as a monk and I always wanted to try it for a short while.

This lead me to attending a Buddhist weekend retreat recently. It was a very intense experience and I did have a sense of leaving the material world behind.

But I had an uncomfortable experience with the leader of the retreat who made it clear that I was expected to follow their teachings unquestioningly. As someone who values my freedom of thought this did not go down well with me.

I kind of live like a monk in my everyday life so maybe that's a better solution for me. The way I approach it is to have a daily routine, to try to be present in every moment and to take joy in simple things, like chopping vegetables or sweeping the floor.

I might go on a retreat again one day, but I'll try a different sect, hopefully one that will respect me as an individual.

My aikido, iaido and yoga instructor was a Buddhist monk. I (of necessity) learned some of the techniques, but already knew the origins of and most of the basics of the religion, and I wasn’t buying into that.

Still, the mindfulness, the meditation, and the letting go of desires helped me immensely.
