The body positivity movement is a product of female hypoagency. In general women are seen as having less control of the consequences of their actions, and men having more control of the consequences of their actions.

Quick example, let's say you observe a girl and a guy arguing and the girl gets up and hits the guy, people react with "man that guy deserved that".

Now if you see the same couple arguing but the guy gets up and hits the girl. Nobody would think "what did she do to deserve it", everyone thinks "he chose his actions and will deserve the punishment that comes his way"

In both situations, the guy is seen as being responsible for not only his own actions, but for the actions of the girl.

When a guy gets morbidly obese it's because of his own lifestyle. If a girl gets morbidly obese there's sympathy, affirmation, positivity because of her hypoagency.

Honestly if there are people that refuse to believe that being morbidly obese is healthy, the conversation of over, that person is not worth arguing with.

This whole body positivity movement is absurd, we need to go back to shaming fat people then maybe 70% of the U.S. wouldn't be overweight.

I get where you don’t want to make fun of someone that’s fat, but obesity is extremely dangerous and should not be celebrated. The big and beautiful positivity thing is crazy. Lizzos gonna die soon. She should hire 50 Cent to follow her around and slap sandwiches out of her mouth.

I definitely see the double-standard you are talking about, and the Body Positivity Movement is lacking in Male Representation. I’m a big fan of Lizzo & Body Positivity, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit Men are underrepresented when it comes to Body Positivity.

I mean, sure, we are seeing gradual changes in advertising, as more and more plus sized men are being featured, but I’ve yet to hear a pop song adulating dad bods and plus sized men— whereas we could definitely name a fuck ton for women.

Jonah Hill and Josh Peck talk a lot about the “fat funny man” trope, and both are worth listening to.

People who say that 50 Cent looked bad are idiots. The dude has a massive amount of muscle mass. I would wager he deadlifts over 500 pounds.

I think it’s got a lot to do with how weight and being thin is a major female issue. Im not saying it isn’t a male issue, but women are under a microscope 24/7 and their bodies are constantly under scrutiny, online and magazines. So to see lizzo unapologetically herself for women is a big step in the right direction.

There’s plenty of men who are off a larger size and in the limelight. Sam smith, rag n bone man, Luke combs. Sam smith is a massive advocate for body positivity, So is Johnathan van ness. The iweigh movement are helpers with.

I don’t see this as a male v female issue, but rather a dickheads who comment of people’s body like it’s their business issue. Also the media love to stir shit and post the negatives but never the positives. For positive comments you have to look deep :)
