Calling the draft oppressive in nature is a little... reactionary to modern beliefs, and doesn't really take into mind the history of how and why it was implemented.

I'll try to keep this short.

Being a citizen, you received benefits from the government. In exchange you agreed to defend it, and were thus provided a say in how it was run (the right to vote)
Land-owning white males were originally the only people allowed to vote, and to a certain point, men conscripted at 18 were not allowed to vote until they turned 21 (or some other higher age). This was later fixed, but it's important to note that even some men were hurt by arbitrary age limits.
Women and blacks were later given the vote, though women were not required to register for the draft. Furthermore, women were allowed into service, but were not allowed to serve in combat primarily because 1000's of years of human nature told us "protect the women and children", not because women are weaker.
It was visited in mid 1900's whether women should be required to register for the draft since they had been given the vote. SCOTUS decided it was still constitutional to preclude women from the draft, since the draft's primary function was to provide able-bodied fighters to fight in combat, and women were still barred from combat.
Today, women are no longer barred from combat, and the draft remains male only.

It is indeed, today, institutionalized sexism, since women are provided all the benefits of society, without the burden of the draft. Originally, it's difficult to call it "sexism" since it was serving a function of human society, aka "protect the women and children", since the success of a society is heavily tied to the survival of woman and children.

Women have only recently been allowed in combat positions. The general consensus among legal scholars says that as it stands, the draft cannot be restricted to men.

SCOTUS reviewed a suit in the 80s that argued that the male-only draft violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution. SCOTUS upheld the male-only draft on the basis that women were not allowed to serve, and thus could not be compelled to.

Now that women are allowed to serve, the basis for that decision is no longer valid. I imagine it will be challenged soon. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

It's worth noting that despite what some MRAs claim, feminist groups and "manginas" like President Carter and Justice Marshall argued in favor of drafting women.

For the majority of history it's men who have paid the price for the safety of women.

As women gained the "right" to vote, they gained none of the lethal responsibility that men still had.

The draft is in fact institutionalized sexism. It's sexist, it's discriminatory, and it's lethal. So same ol same ol for men.
