With the massacres occurring, it's sad, but just based on the population we have in the country, they still aren't much of a problem compared to things like botched medical procedures and car accidents
Guns are a good killing tool. Psychos will always use them to go on a crazed killing spree. Still, in light of what we're seeing in Hong Kong and what we've seen all over the world, where the government and military massacre and rule their civilians, I still believe some mass shooting is an acceptable price to pay for liberty
When the only people with guns are the police and the military, it's a lot easier to pull some Tianamen Square type shit or a military coup. Hence why I say that I accept the few deaths from mass shooting as a valid cost in the pursuit of liberty(citizen's owning weapons)
Are you serious? America has over 360 million citizens, the rate of death from mass shooting is very small. The stats on gun violence are high because anti-gun nuts count suicide deaths in with 'gun violence'
And the bottom line is that history tells us it's not a good thing to have the government being the only people with guns. So citizens owning guns is important to protect the freedom of the citizens. That's why I mentioned this as a cost for freedom
You're right, other governments do respect the rule of law without the need for citizens to own weapons. But guess what? Some governments do not. See : Russia, China, North Korea, Pakistan, etc. In those countries there is military/government rule
It's very short-sighted to say that because we don't see the need for citizen's to own firearms NOW, they do not need to own them EVER
(There is one way in which guns protect personal freedom though, and this is giving citizens the freedom to defend themselves from violent criminals. See South Africa as a country where one is likely to be a victim to crime precisely because the citizens terrible gun laws)
