What I don't understand is this:

When women are sexually assaulted, a feminist media campaign ensues and men are told that they need to step up and hold their gender accountable. But how many female teachers have engaged in lewd conduct with their students? We repeatedly hear stories like this, but then they are quickly forgotten. Why is there no outrage about these stories? Education is a female-dominated sector. So why aren't feminists up in arms about this? There are few things more despicable than an adult doing something like this to a defenseless child.

But perhaps more importantly, why can't we just hold anyone who does something like this accountable, regardless of gender? It's not a gender issue. There are men that sexually assault, harass, and rape. There are women that sexually assault, harass, and rape. It's not about gender. It's about behaving like a responsible member of society.

There is no outrage because the general consensus is that the boy wanted it. What applies to one gender doesn't apply to the other. When I tell my friends about these cases, they say, "Man I wish my __ teacher would have done that", or they'll say, "Lucky little fuck", they don't understand that it can cause long term suffering in men. And even if young kids want it, they don't always fully understand it so it can also be traumatic.

they don't understand that it can cause long term suffering in men. And even if young kids want it, they don't always fully understand it so it can also be traumatic.

Then you should also wish juveniles imprisoned for long stints for 'traumatizing other children with sex'.

Would you be making that argument if the genders we're reversed?

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, because I'm not a sexist. Furthermore, I have on hand plenty of articles written by women about the superior Emotional Intelligence of women, which is a claimed Intelligence capable of gauging people's motives and their desires, ability to navigate personal relationships, etc. On top of that, it is found that brains in females mature in a number of areas as early as 10 years old, whereas for males it can take up to 20 years old for identical areas to mature.

Thus, it is easy to make such an argument for equality as a compromise between the chronic 'female as victimized object' narrative which pervades western culture, from hardline misogynists to feminists, even while the opposite argument could be made, that females are in fact more capable than males and it is really males who are most vulnerable, and therefore sex with younger females should not be seen as bad as sex with younger males.

But for the sake of compromise and equality (or is it equity), I'd say a female who is a juvenile who goads a male into sex should also be imprisoned. If we hold to the tenet that all sexual contact is destructive to teens, teens and adults should face nearly identical legal repercussions.

If, and only if, you believe and will state as affirmative that sex at a young age is universally traumatizing. If you're unwilling to say that, please don't heel back on rhetoric phrases like "one's natural and the other isn't" or "its normal and therefore okay" or "the power is nearly equal so its not exploitative and therefore not harmful".

If you do I have plenty of arguments against all those unthinking responses. Please reason out how two teens fucking is not harmful and how a teen fucking someone older is, in such a way that can be proven. If you try, I'm certain you'll fall to claims of coercive behavior or even outright molestation/rape in lack of 'fighting back', which can happen in teen relationships as well, and thus is not a point gained for support of AoC only against adults who have sex with teens, as teens can harm teens in those ways as well.

I want to entertain any and all VALID arguments which reason that the age of consent saves more than it causes harm, that adults cause more harm to teens than other teens via 'consenting' sex, and that a prohibition law can reduce the incidence of such behavior, rather than drive it underground.

Consider the following: If you make a behavior prohibitive, the only people who partake are the narcissists or sociopaths of the world, the criminal minds. Therefore a total prohibition, like in prostitution or drugs, leads to people dealing with criminal suppliers, who are less than honest and possibly murderous, at least dangerous and abusive, and 'johns' or 'customers' who are likely to be as dangerous themselves, since they show by their willingness to break such a law that they are unlikely to be socially adjusted.

Imagine taking the rapey M&Ms analogy from feminists. If the law isn't prohibitive, the range of potential mates for someone is far higher, and thus they are more likely to date/fuck someone who isn't actually a legitimately harmful malefactor, like a criminally minded individual. They might be immature, or naive, or emotionally stunted, but any of these issues would only put them on an equivalent 'age level' to a teen. Furthermore, they'd be the 'underdog', since they are largely ineffective in relationships, should a teen happen to 'pick them up', by making advances.

In contrast, a law of strict prohibition means the likelihood of who reciprocate on a teen picking them up as an adult is much more in favor of them being an actual abusive partner.

Consider the following: If you were to limit men or women's choice of who they can and can't date, by some law, among the age range of 20-22, then it is far more likely a truly dangerous person would flaunt the law.

Way Out There Theory Incoming:

Imagine a society, where, if your teenage individual finds older people attractive, rather than a complete prohibition, a website, run by govt, of vetted adults of good moral conscience and standing can be courted by your teenager, who can peruse them like adults looking to get fucked peruse grindr or tinder. Now you have refocused any 'negative behavior' like seeking a relationship of this sort coming from a teen onto a far more trustworthy adult population. You can then punish those who fail the tests to get onto the website and pursue it extralegally.

Think of it like a combined inside and outside effort, from parent, to govt, to adult on the website, to instill good concepts of interpersonal relations from the start, rather than those teens who do find adults attractive, getting caught up with truly bad people because they're seeking this kind of relationship and then get it only from people who are breaking a law with such severe consequences, and therefore are likely to be highly unstable or possibly abusive.

You may now cue the horror and outrage over this concept of moderated, health-minded sexuality driven development in favor of absolute prohibition leading to real abuses by real abusers.

Double standards.

Women can't be creepy. They do creepy shit all of the time, but nobody calls them out on it, which further enables them to do more creepy shit.

Alot of these teachers are pretty enough to get a +18 year old male who isn't their student but they can't control their sexual impulses.

Then in the media we only hear about Meetoo.

[–]squidracer -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The age of consent in most states is 16. She fucked up by being a teacher. Probably an appropriate charge given the ages of the boys involved. I know in my state a man would get a similar charge,I think it's called sexual misconduct with a minor.

Just happy she's charged with something

shes charging my sexual batteries. Stop saying rape. Unless it comes out that she forced someone down and held them against their will, then there is no rape.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Statutory Rape is a real thing whether you like the term or not.

[–]Freddie4000 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Did you read the statute? Sexual battery was the appropriate charge, not rape. So it's 100% correct to say that it wasn't rape.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was talking specifically to Mwobuddy, his hobby is to jump into threads about statutory rape and tell everyone "It's not rape". he seems to be a big fan of adults having "consensual sex" with children.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Funny you should mention this. Do you think a 16 year old is a child? If so, there's plenty of states where one can have 'consenting' sex with a so called child, in all your scare quote glory.

In France, its 15. So are 15 year old children in France at risk of being 'legally raped', or is it suddenly consenting sex and not rape because its legal?

How you answer will determine your validity as a speaker and reasoner. You should be forced to admit that either you think a 15 year old in France is both a child and at risk of 'legalized rape' since they aren't able to consent in your eyes, or that Age of Consent is what determines whether a person can consent or not.

And if you take the latter stance, you've proven the problem of incoherence in that reasoning. If rape is only a matter of law, then raising it to 19 will make 18 year olds rape victims, or lowering it to 10 will make 11 year olds NOT rape victims.

If you think its only rape and only a problem of the law by the letter, then we have only to change the law to satisfy your criteria. if you think rape is something beyond the law, then you're admitting that the law of AoC itself does not dictate when rape occurs.

[–]mwobuddy -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I think rape means something.

If a person is a rape victim in California or Florida but not Nevada because they're 16, the term rape loses any sense of coherency. Rape is against the will and harmful to the individual.

Apparently a number of people think rape shouldnt have any strict meaning, and that harmful acts against the will of an individual do not count as rape per se.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Laws and legally defined terms are different in every state...if that causes you anxiety, i don't know what to say. Statutory Rape is a real thing that's not going to go away because you don't like the term.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Right. Like when blacks weren't considered human beings but were considered property. Because the law said so, blacks must've not been human beings that that point in time, eh?

Keep appealing to authority fallacy.

Laws and legally defined terms are different in every state...if that causes you anxiety, i don't know what to say.

This is a cute little ad hom. To think that a crime as awful as 'rape' only occurs to individuals based on arbitrary state rulings suggests that either its not really rape, or that states which have 'too low' a ruling are allowing people to commit an a horrific act free form legal repercussion and/or states with 'too high' a ruling are terminally punishing individuals for something that shouldn't be illegal, since it is lower in other places (implicitly saying someone who is 16 or 17 is not a victim of rape).

Either way, some violation of basic huaman rights and treatment is happening.

I'm fine that you don't care about human rights. You've at least proved it by snarky one liners. If that's t he case, then the message isn't for you.

[–]DrunknAzn -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Teens with raging hormones would love this. What part of that was traumatizing?

[–]mwobuddy 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The part where society claimed that it was in contrast to basic reality, in order to feed a witch hunt.

You see, in history a minority group has always been targeted as a source of all that is rotten and evil in the culture, and then expunged by whatever means is considered moral by the group.

Living in hell on earth by being a registered sex offender is the 'humane' version of just burning our witches at the stake.
