Between 2000 and 2014, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) documented 257 incidents of left-wing ‘no platforming’ activism on campuses, 111 of which succeeded in preventing the invited speakers from delivering their remarks.

Honestly I can't understand this push for censorship from left-wing radicals. I grew up in a country where freedom of speech was so restricted you weren't allowed to say anything against the government or anything which even remotely differed from the norm. It is definitely not something to strive towards.

Deplatforming, silencing and censorship is a slippery slope. Once this idea of shutting down "hateful" speech has been instilled the definition of what is "hateful" can potentially be expanded to contain anything that differs from the so-called acceptable viewpoint, and that is dangerous. Much more dangerous than hate speech or any unconventional point of view, I would argue.

I wonder if these radicals actually think that censorship is a good policy or if they just want their viewpoints to be the only viewpoints that are heard.

The left dictates what is and is not acceptable speech. Outlawing unacceptable speech is part of their plan.

It's because someone has been using the book 1984 as a how to manual.

This article is bullshit, conservatives being prevented from having public platforms does not mean 'left-wing radical are censoring'. It's actually right-wing clintonite liberals.

Also the group censoring campuses the most? It's Israeli Lobbyists, more leftists have gotten in trouble on campuses for criticizing israel than any other group, full stop.

Universities have become a bastion of closed minded ideologues. It's going to take some intervention to clear out the rot.

It's almost like we need anti-universities to provide that universities originally did.

How is this related to men’s rights?

[–]Imnotmrabut[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe you missed the issue of No Platforming of anyone who spoke off or to Men's rights issues.... or against the Campus Rape Culture Hysteria?

I give to you 18 U.S. Code § 241 Conspiracy against rights.

If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same;

They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

This would seem to fit. This crime also has pretty significant penalties. As you might imagine rights are sort of important. We had like a whole list of them or something by the founding fathers etc. I think the 1st amendment is even freedom of speech though who could really say where that was in the priorities and how important it is...
