Not sure if this is the right reddit for this but here it goes anyways.

I live in Canada and I have been paying child support to an ex of mine for 11 years, this is not a court ordered support and something we agreed upon (verbally, unfortunately, I was young and dumb). I have always made my payments and everytime she has asked for an increase I have done so without fighting it. She has sent me messages in the past saying things like "I need help paying rent", "our kid needs $500 for medical ...", etc, and I have always made lump payments to her within 24 hours of her asking to help out, all of which goes above and beyond the bi-weekly child support that we agreed upon.

I get an email from her today saying that she is wanting to take me to court to make sure that my child support is documented, and that any payments that might have been below the government guideline is back-paid. She also requested my tax statements for the previous 11 years, saying that if I provide those that she will not take me to court.

Is it legal for her to ask me for this information? If we do end up going to court, and lets say what I have been paying is below the guidelines that the court mandates, how many years of back-pay can she go after? I have always been there for her financially even though we have barely spoken in the last 11 years. Every request she has made, has been fulfilled. Not sure why after all this time she has decided to go down another route.
