Well I think it's a little early to tell that to an eleven year old. Nothing against you, but I got the impression that you just left your son without a clear idea of what this is, and why it's serious. That'll most likely encourage him to search for answers himself, witch I wouldn't want my son looking up things like sexual assault unsupervised. I dunno this is all I get from this vague a post.

That is a horrible response. If a child asks you a question of that nature, you explain, if it is clear they are not able to understand or don't give a fuck, yeah you just dismiss the issue, but from the story presented, it seems like the child was legitimately confused and interested in finding out what was going on. The child WILL seek answers on this, it just likely won't be from you next time.

I get the sense that I would be a good father, even though I despise children. Hmmm.

I think it's fine that you reacted like you did. It sounds like you had good reason to.

My belief is your next step is to engage again with him about it and tell him you have been affected by sexual assault, to explain your reaction.

I've got a 10 year old boy and he seems to take adult topics in very clearly. I don't go into detail but I do talk about the male survivors I work with sometimes. Hello, he even sees the guys when he is in the office with me for a few minutes.

I hope you have a male survivors network near you to engage with. You shouldn't have to live with that alone.
