This is a computer security public awareness campaign, computers, security and computer security are areas where men are a valuable demographic. The spokesperson is simply describing a marketing strategy.

From what I've read elsewhere, the key factor here is that women have already been heavily targeted by education campaigns and the media to avoid putting their personal details on the internet for fear of being raped or what have you which has the added benefit to them of not being as easily targeted for identity theft and similar crimes, but men have not and are therefore at higher risk of having their personal information misused.

This may be so, but it occurs to me that when women are heavily targeted by media campaigns educational or otherwise, I generally become aware of it as I see quite a bit of the same advertisement on a day to day basis as a woman might see.

Not at all. By teaching people to be careful online we're basically saying that it's ok to steal people's identities.
We don't need to attack the victims, we need to end this pervasive culture of cybercrimes. The culture that inundates us every day with glorified images of cybercrimes, that says these aren't real crimes, that the victims "had it coming".
You know what we need? We need to organize and take back the internet. People should start posting their private information to show that it isn't making private information available that causes these crimes, but rather criminals. I should be free to post my SS#, birthdate, full name, and bank account number online and no one should take advantage of that. And if they do no one should call me names for being so careless.

Am I the only one here who has found women to be the one's with shitty online security?
I mean, my password is 16 digits with alternating numbers and letters, and capitals. My sisters and mothers passwords are their names.
This seems to be a pretty solid pattern with the people I talk to.
(Yes I know this isn't purely about password, but still)
