I have 2 daughters. My youngest is 21, and I am concerned for her well being as every good father should be, All a father wants is for her to find a good man that will take care of her. Like any normal child, parents don't know shit and they don't want to be preached at. I've found a way to "deliver the sermon" without it being received as one. Challenging views in the form of questions.

Here is a recent example:

Me - I have a questionHer - I likely have an answer (she's a smart ass like me)

Me - What age range will you consider dating in?Her - 5 years older

Me - Why 5?Her - I don't know

Me - Well there has to be a reason you set a hard number?
Her - I dunno, I guess I expect them to have more of the same things in common

Me - That makes perfect sense. Let me bounce this off of you. Let's say you met a 40 year old guy. Things just clicked, conversation comes easy. You feel a spark. Do you explore it?
Her - No (said with an almost grossed out tone)

Me - Why not?
Her - I dunno. He likely has a lot more experiences than I do so we wouldn't have a lot in common

Me - Ok that's fair. But don't you think that experience wouldn't be beneficial to you? He could expose you to more life experiences. and most marriages and relationships end due to infidelity or money issues. The older guy is much more likely to be financially stable.
Her - I guess I never considered that before

Me - So if the man has experience, in theory he's able to better lead you, provide a better life for you. Now it's obvious he's likely going to die before you. With the average life expectancy for a man i 75, he could offer you a rounded 30 years of happiness and financial security whereas a man your age statistically speaking will likely give you 5-6 years of struggle before the relationship ends. Which man do you choose?
Her - I'd take the 40 year old

Me - Didn't you just say earlier no more than 5 years up?
Her - She starts to get frustrated ... yes but ...... where's this coming from?

Me - OK, one last question, at what age does age no longer matter?
Her - I don't know, I just think anything past 10 years is just gross.Me - fair enough (said in a laughing voice)

The sermon was received. Hopefully she realizes setting limits limits her own opportunity. The age of 40 was an example only but if she dated a 40 year old good man that could take care of her Id be OK with that. And I know for a fact ... the next time she hears some woman blowing off at the mouth about older men dating younger women (aka grooming) she'll use the example I gave her. She hates feminism. Maybe she'll change a mind in the process or at the very least shut the conversation down.
