At my bookstore job earlier at customer service was a copy of a new book called Ferals and reading the synopsis on the back, I damn near had a swearing fit. The premise concerns a pandemic in which the world's entire male population is reduced to a violent, savage state and they become bent on wanting to kill every woman in the world. All of the world's women form a resistance to fight off the men.

I mean WTF... how is this not blatant misandry? I can only imagine the uproar and outrage if the genders were reversed. Actually scratch that, if they were reversed this novel would no doubt be hailed as being empowering for women. When all it really does is re-enforce the divisive and hateful man vs. woman rhetortic and play into the misandrist delusion that a world without men in it would somehow be a perfectly peaceful utopia. It's sad, scary and infuriating how this belief is accepted as factual and is often widespread. As usual ignoring the fact many men and boys are also victims of female violence and abuse (a fact which is intentionally ignored and downplayed), and playing into the misandrist belief that being born male somehow pre-dispositions you to bad behavior and you inherently hate women and seek to harm them at all costs. Obviously trying to link being male with violence and bad behavior in general.

I haven't read the book so perhaps I can't fairly judge, but from the sypnosis, I don't think I'll bother. I'm so fed up with this and I'm sure I'm far from the only one here who feels this way. It's bad enough this is constantly widespread in the media, but when it creeps into entertainment as well? Ugh. Reminds me how there was an episode of the most recent Twilight Zone series involving the world's male population suddenly becoming violent towards women (and the episode's title in question was "Not All Men"). This belief is genuinely widely held, that men are the source of all violence in the world and being male somehow automatically makes you a horrible person who's sole purpose in life is to harm women. I especially hate how boys are exposed to this, being told they're some evil person just for their gender and the world would be better off without them. So fed up with this hateful, divisive garbage that's sole purpose is to demonize men and turn both men and women alike against each other.
