The laws that they thought would protect them from slander are completely bs. I understand the idea of coming out against someone for sexual assault can be difficult, but making it basically legal to accuse anyone without any liability would be insane. Glad the judge decided to go through with the case.

The thing I don't understand is she made accusations against the professor, but didn't press legal charges. Now she's fighting against taking it to court to prove it wasn't slander. If he did assault her, it should be easy enough to prove it was at least possible. Proving she lied and passed rumors to discredit his character is really hard to prove, and she should be glad it's gonna be heard in court not fighting it. On the other hand if he was guilty the last thing he would want is the publicity, then again he may have nothing to lose at this point.

This surprises me, in a good way. He should of course have the right to sue. Free speech has always had it’s limitations. Many countries have long acknowledged it’s not okay to commit slander and libel under the protection of free speech.

Of course, the fact he is allowed to sue, doesn’t t mean he’ll win and even if he is awarded something, it doesn’t mean he’ll collect.

Falsely accusing people as a means to get at them or ruin their career is getting out of hand. Hopefully this case will encourage those who are considering making false allegations to think twice.
