You can't take rape seriously unless you take false rape accusations seriously and punish them accordingly.

You can't think that rape should be treated as one of the worst crimes a person can do, and also believe that falsely alleging that someone committed one of the worst crimes would have no serious effects on their reputation, social life, ability to get jobs, and mental health.

Good thing she got caught, but the penalty is laughably small.

The penalties for false accusations need to become more and more realistic ASAP.

Hopefully they sue the fuck out of her.

Did the boys do time? I do think, while wanting girls like this to be punished, you have to give them an incentive to fess up and tell the truth as early as possible. So if she tells the truth as soon as the police question the boys and they deny it, then maybe a fine. If they are incarcerated for a short time while investigated then maybe she should get a fine and a short time herself. If the boys have to go through a trial and do serious time, then they should get at least as long as the boys do. Without an incentive to fess up early, why would she admit to lying, when she will get the same time whether the boys are released straight away after the lie, or if they do 7 yrs?
