I would love to have more options to chose from as a male. What's the status of that gel-thingy in India?

[–]NiteTiger 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Latest I found

The gel is currently in clinical trials in India, consisting of multiple rounds of trials on humans over several decades, as well as in Europe, and is also licensed for development in the U.S. under the name Vasalgel.Jun 25, 2021

Well, it's still better than heating my parts since I know that due to the person doing it its me I ran an 80% chance of burning my family jewels....

I remember in some of my research studies that increasing temperature of the scrotum results in higher female birth rates because male sperm is more susceptible to damage by heat than female sperm.

Just a thought.

In some species, the sex of the animal depends on the temperature of the embryo.

This idea has been around for a long time and if I'm not mistaken is in use to some extent in India.

The idea is simple, the testicles are external to the body because normal body heat will kill the sperm. So you heat them externally to the same effect.

As I recall it takes a fair amount of time, perhaps 20-30 min and can't be comfortable.

Also, I have no idea how effective it is.

It depends. My wife can’t use contraceptives and we have 3 sons all conceived at the first intercourse. We were desperate because we didn’t want have a surgical sterilization because of the connected risks. So we decided to give a try to experimental methods taking the risk.

One year ago I’ve started trying heat contraception via artificial cryptorchidism. I started keeping my testicles tucked outside the scrotum for at least 15 hours a day. I did a periodical sperm test to verify the situation and, after 3-4 weeks sperm concentration started to decrease. In a couple of months sperm test assessed a substantial sterility condition.

To further reduce risks, in accordance with my urologist, I started taking silodosin before having sex. It’s a common drug for prostate that cause dry orgasms as a secondary effect. With this approach I feel more sure because I don’t have sperm emission with the orgasm.

We are finally having unprotected sex since six months. I continue to test my sperm every month to be sure but, at the moment, I continue to be sterile.

Article really doesn't help advance the idea, at all. It has more about why there should be effective male birth control, instead of why this is it. Like none at all?

Does it's effectiveness wane over time? What is the regimen to guarantee 99% effectiveness? How do we override our bodies innate defense against this precise process, which is extremely well known.

Am not willing to rubber band my nuts and sit in a bowl of soup for an hour. Especially without a look at the potentials.

Shit article, keep your condoms close.
