I recently got a lot of flack in class for arguing against the accuracy and efficacy of the wage gap and “closing it”.

I mentioned that differences in attitude between men and women contribute the majority of pay difference. Also men are more interested in things than people, therefore are more likely to take up occupations that are more technical and pay more.

My classmates responses were that the patriarchy has misinformed a generation of men and that I needed better sources.

Does anyone have good source(s), academic or otherwise, that essentially demonstrates why the pay gap exists?

TL:DR a few SJWs + the prof + hyper-apologetic white guy in class all ganged up to argue against me. I decided to back down since it was futile. Need sources and more academic information to not be cornered again.
