I think that statement is correct. The ones you see on a day to day basis on television and news are usually the most extreme versions of whatever topic they represent (racism, sexism, Christianity. , atheism) and ultimately represent the entire group whether that group likes it or not. How many idiot loud mouth sexist men are on her and get an intolerant sexist comment clipped from here and posted to 2X just to make the rest of us look bad. I'm sure it happens the other way around here too with clips from 2X when 99% of the comments are benign.

Camille Paglia as well, Cassie Jaye was one but then she stopped calling herself that because of how bad the movement had become. People who actually think this way about feminism are stuck inside their own bubble, the three people you and I have mentioned have all been ostracised from the feminist community because they won't hate men or MRAs for that matter.

If your friend is sincere, what I would do is I would dare them to actually try and bring up topics like men being victims of domestic violence from women or being raped by women. That's one of the worse things you could talk about with feminists and they will likely immediately turn on them if they happen to know feminists in their own circle that pretend to be reasonable in public.

The mask quickly falls off when you bring up uncomfortable topics with feminists who are good at making themselves appear like nice people.

It seems that the more high profile a feminist gets the more ideological and dogmatic they get

I'd say check out the sub femradebates for some feminists that can actually handle talking about men in some context other than "why are men bad and what can be done to make them fix themselves".

But I'll warn you the moderation is pretty biased. Comments by feminists and comments about men and mras get more leniency than comments by mras and comments about women and feminists.

Sure, but everyone will have different ideas about what counts as "good". It includes what you put emphasis on, and how you interpret their work, and what your political opinions are.

If you use compatibiliity with MRA positions as a measure then you are going to miss out on the great majority of the goodness in feminism. Most feminists have very poor understanding of MRA-ism as practiced on this sub and just use MRA as an insult. But you might be pleasantly surprised if you can talk to them about men's stuff in an individual-focused way which doesn't trigger their political defences.

Christina Hoff Summers isn't a feminist. I'm not sure she ever was.

Other feminists will uniformly say she isn't and if you ask her directly about it (as I have) she will demure. She's a dissident (-ex) feminist at best. You can Google that term. Like Warren Farrel, Wendy McElroy, Donna Laframbois, Cathy Young and a bout a dozen other semi-known people.

The only person who comes close to being accepted (begrudgingly) as a real feminist, by other actual feminists, and definitely claims to be one, no ifs and buts, but isn't a total bigoted asshole is Camille Paglia. She's unique.

A very simple question to ask feminists to determine if they are "good" or not is: If a man is falsely accused of sexual assault, then who is the victim?

If a feminist can simply say: "The man who is falsely accused" without hesitation, or without qualifying the answer with the false "but, only 2% of rape accusations are actually false," then she is close to being a good feminist.
