I think the best thing that you can do is record everything.

Modern phones can easily be converted into ad hoc, covert voice recorders, they're also video recorders.

When something starts to get tense, just clandestinely activate your voice recorder. Even better if you have friends you can e-mail the copies to between when you hear something that can be used in your defense, and when the cops arrive.

All you can really do is be cautious, try to avoid situations which don't seem right, and educate yourself. You won't be able to ensure nothing bad happens to you, but you can try to avoid situations which might put you at greater risk (e.g. fucking girls you've just met...especially if either one of you is drunk/high, not wearing protection if you don't want to get that girl pregnant, etc.), and you can educate yourself about that bad shit so that, if it happens, you will be at least somewhat prepared.

Remember that what you read here are worst case scenarios. Some of the cases are so rare they're akin to getting hit by a meteorite. You don't stay inside your house for fear of meteorites, do you? Some risks are acceptably small, others can be minimized. Simply knowing of what can go wrong will go a long way towards preventing it. The more informed you are the farther ahead you'll be able to see a situation going south and avoid it.
