I believe the increase in such statistics is not primarily due to a factual rise in female sex offenders but rather because more victims are coming forward to report such cases, in part due to the broadening of legal definition and scope of rape and other sexual offences as well as a gradual change in perspective to the victim-perpetrator paradigm.

Literatures and surveys throughout the years have continuously shown that there is rough gender symmetry with both victims and perpetrators of sexual violence. However, there is a massive discrepancy in conviction statistics. Male victims being much less likely to lodge an official report is arguably a primary factor.

Female sexual predation is extremely understudied compared to the male counterpart. However, I observed that there is a slow but steady progress with regards to awareness and research of this phenomenon.

I wonder whether the 'primary factor' isn't so.much the vitcim's 'unwillingness' to file a report, as much as it is the complete and utter lack of infrastructure for him to do so.

But that is not surprising when legally, only women can be victims of rape...

I wonder whether the 'primary factor' isn't so.much the vitcim's 'unwillingness' to file a report, as much as it is the complete and utter lack of infrastructure for him to do so.

I agree to a large extent. Their unwillingness to file for police report may be partly due to the lack or even perceived lacking of legislative and social infrastructure for male victims, amongst many factors.

Generally, males are much less likely to recognise themselves as victims, especially of the sexual violence variant. However, just because they do not explicitly perceive themselves as victims does not mean that they do not experience trauma and suffering, or that their suffering is lesser compared to female victims. In fact, the implications for such victims may be greater as they are often unable to find validation for the resentment and indignation they experienced.

According to studies collated by 1in6.org, at least 1 in 6 men are victims of sexual violence. They also suggested that such statistics are probably underestimates.

According to them,

-Males who have such experiences are less likely to disclose them than are females.

-Only 16% of men with documented histories of sexual abuse (by social service agencies, which means it was very serious) considered themselves to have been sexually abused, compared to 64% of women with documented histories in the same study.

But that is not surprising when legally, only women can be victims of rape...

It depends on the context of the laws of individual countries. Although many countries have gender-specific rape laws, most do have other legal provisions to address sexual offences committed by women. However, notwithstanding the fact that rape charges are often more severe compared to other types of sexual charges, socioculturally, the term 'rape' often carries a greater connotation of severity compared to terms such as 'sexual assault' or 'sexual contact'.

I especially detest the term 'made to penetrate' as personally, it is almost as if it implies that the victims are complicit in their own victimisation.

Be that as it may, there are countries where they is seemingly no legal recourse available for adult male victims of female predators. Take India for example, where not only is rape gender-specific but virtually every sexual offences as well, with molestation (aka outrage of modesty) and even sexual harassment (aka insult of modesty) explicitly excluding male victims.

Any possible "perception" of lack because there is actual lack.

[–]takeitonyards 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The uk rape definition is not broadening.

[–]Solid-Perspective98 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately so. However, non-consensual sexual intercourse of males by females is criminalised under 'Assault by penetration' (section 2) and 'Causing sexual activity without consent (penetrative)' (section4(4)), both of which carry the same maximum sentence of life imprisonment, which is similar to rape. Nonetheless, sentencing banding may differ, and social connotations even more so.

IIRC recently there was a petition to the UK parliament to amend the offence of rape to be completely gender-neutral. Regretfully, the UK government maintained its position that there are adequate provisions to address all types of sexual offences and that there is no tentative plan to review its legislation.

Where did you got all that nonsense the u.k parliament told you and you believed them LOL.

[–]Solid-Perspective98 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't understand what you mean by saying that I believed them. I am merely stating the legal definitions objectively and the government response to the petition. In no fashion am I suggesting that I agree with the outcome. On the contrary, I am extremely unsatisfied with it.

There used to be video on YouTube about a conference in the UK disrupted by feminists in the late 70's or 80's. It seems to have been taken down.

"rise"

[–]takeitonyards 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is no rise in female sex offenders, they are just less likely to get away with it today .

"Women are also being held more accountable – in the past there has been an element of their behaviour being minimised or excused, that they are somehow not capable of this behaviour. But as society has changed those old-fashioned views have changed," she says.

...I really don’t get how anyone can prey on toddlers or babies.

There was some other article I spotted here talking about a nurse or something that had been abusing 30+ something babies about a year ago I suppose.

I saw something on r/MorbidReality relating to a case like this that I saw as a teenager, although with a male perpetrator instead.

...This subject has been...stuck in my head.

It came up randomly and suddenly like a week ago, no damn good reason. It’s just been sitting in my head, even when I try to pay attention to something else, I don’t get it. Even if it’s not the image I saw, it’s just the words of the subject matter. Intermittently, it’ll pop up in my head.

This type of crime really is something I don’t want stuck in my head.

It really is just a dreadful subject...and I’m the guy who wants to watch every genocide and war movie that comes out...

...I don’t know why I’m posting this, this sub doesn’t seem dedicated to introspective venting like this, I just...I need to get it out...

First I want to say that feminism, in my view, is about seeing women as whole real people warts and all. I sure as hell don’t want to be seen as an angel incapable of harm. I’ve hurt plenty of people in my life. It would have actually helped me to hear that women can be flawed and damaging.

Second, I used to work with adolescent sex offenders, and every story they told me about abuse by females, mostly mothers, in their lives I believed unreservedly.

However, police have been recording crimes by declared gender identity, not sex. I don’t think trans women offend more than anyone else. But, I think rapists and pedophiles play the system. It’s something thing to keep in mind tho if every female sex offender was caught we would also see large increases. I would just like to know exactly what we are looking at here.

I know people are going to hate this comment.

[–]takeitonyards 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There was a study that showed that most male rapists were molested as a child and a very large percentage of male serial killers and mass murderers were too.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Once they are adults people have a tendency to see them as just bad scum. When you work with them as kids and know their families you can see how damaged they are. I told a boy once he was a good kid and he started crying. Some of them didn’t have adults who were ever kind to them. Or their mothers were sex workers and they were exposed to terrible things. It was very sad. And yes quite a few had mothers who molested them.

[–]takeitonyards 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I heard most psychopaths and sociopaths are men and i heard 94% of psychopaths and sociopaths have a long history of child abuse.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think they did a study in prison and they found a lot of the men had a type of brain injury that can come from being abused as a kid.

[–]marauderp 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I know people are going to hate this comment.

Well yeah, it's completely pointless, unfounded speculation.

Also:

First I want to say that feminism, in my view, is about seeing women as whole real people warts and all.

Nobody cares what your definition of feminism is. The only really important thing about "feminism" is that everybody who claims to be one thinks it's a Good Thing and that they are a Good Person for adopting the label.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So what changed then? Has the world suddenly had its collective eyes opened and just now believe women can sex offenders? Looks like mission accomplished. Or you could look at the mugshots of a lot of the women being arrested for child molestation and child porn and rape and use your noggin. Whatever.

So are you the one I check with before I post to make sure it’s something every person on the sub cares about. I don’t care what you think either.
