So I’m a 25 year old male, and I have a hard time with not letting words effect me. I have a friend who I see regularly, and sometimes we have a great relationship but other times I despise him. He will say certain things that at first go over my head. But then I think about these things later on when I’m alone, they make me angry because I draw the conclusion that they were indirectly disrespecting me in some way. It gets to the point where it I get almost tempted to message this particular friend about their comment they made and start an argument because I felt disrespected. But for some reason I never react this way to their comments initially. It’s only until I am by myself later on and I’m able to analyse the conversation and the comment they made. That makes me angry and almost makes me want to lash out at them. Should I just distance myself from these types of people entirely or should I try find a way to not be moved by these types of comments and not let the opinions of other people trigger an emotional reaction from me, whether they are a friend of mine or not. A lot of the comments I’m referring to, Are very subtle disrespect. Subtle enough to where you don’t notice it straight away. I also have a habit of reading deeply into things where as most other people probably just take things at face value. Does anyone else experience this? If so, any advice would be appreciated into how to handle these sorts of situations with friends like this or just people in general.
