You got angry replies because you said it's worse than rape and implied rape doesn't affect the victims' lives forever - which it does. Actual rapes, (not the "I had sex with this person and now I regret it" kind of rape) fuck up with your mind. You were abused by someone and you lose their sense of self-esteem, confidence, trust and that obviously fucks up your life.

Now, false rape allegations ruin someone's life in a different way (I'm guessing experiencing the lack of self-esteem, confidence and trust also occurs though) but neither is worse than the other. They are both terrible.

While I agree with you, historically the whole reason why statutory rape is even a crime is to "protect the innocence of young girls" In fact, at common law only men could be charged with rape and in order to be charged with rape the woman had to actually resist the man to her utmost and the man had to overcome her will. The barrier to being charged with rape has slowly eroded to the point where it now includes a lot of sex that is actually consensual. The reason that they keep eroding barriers to being charged with rape is because the crime is highly underreported. The idea is that if they make the crime easier to charge that more women will feel safe about coming forward but despite the erosion of standards rape is still heavily underreported. Probably because women dont want to go through a big trial about their sexual behavior for something that tbh is most of the time not that big of a deal. Rape (although not good) is a heavily stigmatized crime and ive even heard people say that it is worse than murder when in reality.. its just a woman saying no. Additionally, although the standard for being charged with rape has been reduced the penalty for comitting the crime has remained the same. I don't support rape by any means. Sex should be an activity that is fun for both people but also not all rapes are the same. Many aren't nearly as bad as most people would imagine. In my opinion if the barrier to being charged with rape is reduced so should the penalty and the stigma surrounding it.

Yeah agree with the top response in this thread. You got downvoted for the last paragraph and to be fair probably rightly so. Although I agreed with you completely up until there.

I think there is a issue with rape being a blanket term which has informally been extended (on social media and university campus’s ) to include things like regret or even unwanted advances by men etc.

Let’s face it, at least for the time being men are excluded from the conversation. It’s best to avoid the topic altogether on social media. It’s too easy to get frustrated by irrational people and say something you don’t actually mean or is easy to take out of context.

Educate your sons fellas. Tell them to find creative ways to get a look at a girls drivers license (ethically and lawfully). Something like a joke about wanting to see their pic on their license for whatever light hearted reason.

you destroyed your argument with the last paragraph about rape. sure, fake rape accusations fuck you up too but saying that rape is less evil than a fake accusation is just dumb when you think how traumatic that experience is. imagine if a gay guy would rape you and then people would tell you that a fake accusation is worse than you being rape. see how that sounds?? that‘s why you got the downvotes. If you think that rape doesn‘t fuck up your life once and forever you are a sociopath. you got my downvote on that, even though I agreed with the rest. sorry mate.
