Reading this thread gave me a bit of an idea.

Lost and sad watching my husband fight for custody!

This is such a common theme playing out in society today that it has long crossed the line over into a civil rights issue. I'm preaching to the choir here, of course as many of us (myself included) have gone through some variation of this. My experience wasn't nearly as bad as what's going on here, but it was bad enough.

The main point flowing though all these narratives is a lack of resources...a lack of enough money to put up a good fight.

Listen, I'm a libertarian. Hell, I'm an anarcho-capitalist. I understand that's of no importance to many people here. I'm not bringing it up to inject politics into all of this. I mention it because hanging around in the intellectual spaces that I do, I've run up on some interesting ways to facilitate the flow of money between people.

One of the most effective and explosive ways for a group of people to give/lend money to a cause they support is through some sort of Kickstarter model. I'm thinking micro-finance, here. Kickstarter has a website where people "apply" for money to millions of people over the internet. Though the power of micro-financing, a person can pitch in a few dollars hoping it's added to the few dollars hundreds or even thousands of other people will pitch in. It's no uncommon for someone to raise tens of thousands of dollars this way in a very short amount of time.

It seems to me that if we had the inclination to help out people in such dire and desperate circumstances, we could do the same thing. A Kickstarter type of site which caters to these sorts of issues.

I wonder how many men have lost custody of their children (or lost equitable time with them) for the lack of money. That seems like a shame to me.

Any suggestions or further ideas? I think this is a topic worth discussing and would serve to aim our collective energy in a direction that will do some real good.
