Doubt it's really much better now a days I was in basic in 2000 so peace time had one guy that couldn't speak English found out that he was trying to join the coast guard not the army. Another one was slow as hell couldn't shoot for shit to pass him the drill instructor gave extra rounds to the people next to him to shoot his targets cause the live fire was scored by computer he should have failed out but they just passed him along

One minor point not mentioned in the article is that these troops who were part of McNamara's program were assigned service numbers that started with 67.
