This is actually a good thing. Humor (when laughing with the victim) is the first sign of acknowledging that it's a problem. At least that's the case from every instance of humor I've observed on related topics.

It's the first step away from complete denial.

Just wanted to say YES. I was/am the victim of an abusive partner. I'm the dude. She made false accusations of violence against me to gain advantage in our property dispute. Not only did she get away with it, but according to numerous lawyers I had consultations with, what happened to me is very common. One (very prominent and high price) even thought that as much as 50% of "emergency protection orders" are spurious and are unwarranted (99.9% against MEN).

If you are a woman and you call "ABUSE", you are automatically accepted as creditable and the man in question is automatically assumed to be guilty.

Where are all of these battered woman we keep hearing about? The fact is that the majority (not all!) of them are figments of our collective imagination. The tale of the man who beats his wife relentlessly while outside circumstances prevent her "escape" are, in fact, VERY RARE. I ask you this; how many do you ACTUALLY know? I'll bet zero, maybe one.

There are lots of factors

If a woman attacks a man, and lies and says that it was in self defense, her odds of getting away with it aren't that great. But if she damages herself first, hard enough to leave cuts and bruises then attacks the man, her odds of getting away with it increase substantially

It really depends on the situation. I'd say it's not something that you need to really worry about happening to you, but it is a problem nonetheless
