So I've seen a few posts recently discussing the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment). Specifically Meryl Streep's letters to congress about it.

The Articles I've read state the text in the ERA is as follows:

Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

I thought to myself "Well this sounds like a really great thing, men and women alike could benefit from this" so I decided to look into it.

I was browsing through the F.A.Q on the official ERA site and found something weird. The ACTUAL text submitted to the House of Representatives has different wording.

Section 1: Women shall have equal rights in the United States and every place subject to its jurisdiction. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

Section 2: Congress and the several States shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Section 3: This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

So they added a whole new sentence that now makes this bill specifically about women's rights, but this has not been shown in any article I've seen.

Any thoughts or more info on this? If I hadn't dug deeper I might have voted in favor of this bill based on the original text. Kind of bums me out
