Hey guys. So I've had my current job for about 2.5 months. It has been going very well to until this point. I recently found out however, about our extremely sexist policy. Apparently, according to my female manager, no women are aloud to leave the building after 10pm without a male escort. Why you might ask? Because it puts the women in danger supposedly. I just wanted to know, is this legal? The building is in a pretty bad neighborhood, and we actually have had a previous employee get mugged after work one day. It was a male employee of course. Anyways, I feel as if this policy is highly unethical for two reasons. 1) It puts a man's life below a woman's life. We are expected to escort women to their cars to ensure their safety, but what about my safety? Sure, it may give her an advantage if a man attacks her, but what if he pulls a knife or gun? Then I have no advantage, and I would be expected to give my life for her? This seems atrocious. 2) It takes away a woman's choice. What if a woman doesn't want to be escorted to her car by a male employee? She has no choice because it is policy. The same way he has no choice but to put himself in danger for someone he may barely know.
