As someone who was circumcised as an infant, I have found all the benefits of circumcision to be true.

[–]_BlueShark87 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Ok but what if you didn’t want to be circumcised, there’s a reason they don’t let children consent to things like this, especially a baby who can’t even talk.

There is risk to such procedures, but we always do what's best for kids, and we should not shame parents for picking benefits for their kids over the risks.

We also vaccinate them, should we wait until the age of consent to do that?

[–]_BlueShark87 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Vaccinating someone isn’t even close to the same level as cutting a baby.

[–]No-Recognition-4033 -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

Yes it is, the results of mismanaging foreskin are horrific, and there are no health benefits to it, there are only sexual benefits, and debatably less than those who've been circumcised.

The effects of shots or sprays on the minds of kids can also be terrible, I had to be held down until my teenage years for the sake of them, and many aren't even needed, what use is the flu or varicella vaccine in a population with little to no death rates from them?

I still support vaccination, for the benefits. Why should we shame parents for choosing a procedure for their kid which they find the benefits better than alternatives?

There's no feeling of being out control, and you don't remember anything about the procedure. The only people who feel such are people who've never had it, had it botched, already have some dysmorphia, or are shamed for it.

[–]_BlueShark87 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That seems like a personal thing, I was always able to take shots fine but idk if that’s just me.

Circumcision permanently alters the brain

[–]No-Recognition-4033 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

Right, because special interests groups specifically made in opposition to my stance could not possibly be biased.

What the article neglected to say is that this is a surgical procedure, and they're MRI-ing a baby, they neglected to mention that both those things would affect the areas they're looking at.

There's no legitimate research that circumcision alone causes a difference in brain function for adult men, or boys. It's been researched by unbiased groups for longer than anyone's been alive, and none have found such a suggestion to be true.

Who?

[–]No-Recognition-4033 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

In addition to the sources I sent to you in another comment, literally every other hospital, medical college, and others.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They are not unbiased. They make huge profits from both the mutilation and dealing with the problems it causes.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

What exactly are these benefits?

[–]No-Recognition-4033 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I don't have to pull skin to clean the penis.

Decreased risks of UTI's.

Less risk of certain STD's, I'd argue less pain with certain ones as well due to the way foreskin works.

Less risk of penile cancer.

And no risk whatsoever of conditions such as phimosis, or any related to cleaning of the foreskin.

[–]mikesteane 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I don't have to pull skin to clean the penis.

Hardly worth mentioning.

Decreased risks of UTI's.

Less risk of certain STD's, I'd argue less pain with certain ones as well due to the way foreskin works.

All of this is highly debateable, there are numerous risks associated with circumcision that you do not mention, e.g. meatal stenosis. If we had been better off without foreskins, evolution would have done away with them.

[–]No-Recognition-4033 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I said that there are risks to the procedure, but that parents should be allowed to chose based on their own analysis, and should not be shamed for either choice.

I'm not here to convince you to get circumcised, just to say it's not evil.

Since you won't take a primary source saying that he's not ever had to worry about those things due to foreskin, here's plenty of scholarly sources on it.

https://www.londonchildrensurgery.co.uk/blog/are-there-any-benefits-of-circumcision-in-babies/

https://medlineplus.gov/circumcision.html

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3684945/

https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/circumcision/about/pac-20393550

There's plenty more.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Circumcising babies IS evil.

[–]No-Recognition-4033 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Why?

It provides benefits to the child that I feel outweigh the risks of the procedure, benefits that have already been said.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It causes great pain, has huge risks, removes sensation, causes permanent damage and takes away bodily autonomy. It is exactly the same as fgm which also has claimed benefits.

[–]No-Recognition-4033 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Fgm never claimed to have health benefits, they are not remotely the same. It's only done to older girls, there are feelings of ptsd for doing so.

Fgm had claimed to help hygiene, but there was nothing backing those claims, we know what happens when men don't wash under the foreskin, and it's not pretty.

Everything else in favor of FGM included social norms, small religious sects, and male pleasure. They are completely different issues.

[–]mikesteane 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fgm never claimed to have health benefits

Not true

It's only done to older girls,

Not true

Everything else in favor of FGM included social norms, small religious sects, and male pleasure

Like MGM then except for switching the genders. The arguments are exactly the same.
