The #LeanInTogether is trending and making waves. Let's do some actual Men's Rights Activism and support this.

The #LeanInTogether website has some tips for men on how to help. Lets look at this as an opportunity to advocate for MEN.

1) Be a 50/50 partner. Great. To do this will take more than "Man UP". To be a 50/50 partner at home men need to not be punished for taking time off for family matters. Men need paid paternity leave to bond with the children. Do share housework 50/50 but also demand that she she shares paying the bills 50/50.

2)Be an active father. Great. We need the presumption of 50/50 shared parenting upon divorce. Men need to be encouraged to attend their child's sports games rather than working that over time. We need to end the deamonization of male sexuality so we are not seen as predators and threats to children.

3)Close the wage gap at home. Great. But their solution is wrong. We should assign the "taking out the trash" to the girls and the "setting the table" to the boys. It is by reinforcing gender roles at an early age like forcing the boy to go outside in the freezing rain to take out the trash while the girl stays warm and safe inside that leads to much of the wage gap issues.

4)Challenge gender stereotypes. This is important. We shouldn't give girls ONLY "girl" toys and boys ONLY 'boy' toys. We should ensure that both boys and girls have both science toys and caring toys. Some part of gender stereotypes are rooted in biology, but everyone is an individual and should have access to the toys they want to play with. The lack of caring toys for boys is every bit as much of an issue as the lack of science toys for girls.

5)&6) Help your daughter lead and don't tell your son to "Man UP". Yes, young women are discouraged from being leaders and a fathers support will help over come that problem. Yes, telling your son to "Man UP" denies a very real piece of his humanity. These both need to be addressed. (A help girls and help boys tied together is a great piece of gender equality)

While #LeanInTogether is most decidedly feminism, there is no reason we can't use it to advocate for Men's Rights.
