Interesting, this is written by a woman.

Mary Grabar holds a PhD and has taught college English since 1993. She writes about education, culture, and politics.

Same old same old...

She and a female friend did venture there once, but were apparently so traumatized by being the only females there that they left. “It is impossible to describe the discomfort, vulnerability, and isolation of being the only women in a male-dominated space,” Dupuis wrote.

Now she wants to force the perpetrators of her discomfort into an “uncomfortable conversation.”

I'm pretty sure just sitting in the same room as her would make any man uncomfortable.

Jesus Christ, Mary Grabar wrote the article and she is actually the one noticing what is going on with men, trying to bring forth mens issues.

This upsets student Julia Dupuis, who wrote an article in the student newspaper, The Spectator, titled, “PUB POWER must force campus to recognize privilege and broach uncomfortable conversations.”

Yes, I meant sitting in the same room with Julia Dupuis would make any man uncomfortable, she and her friend were the referents in the paragraph before my response.

I taught kindergarten. I'm a male. I noticed that my boys were outperforming my girls hands down. I was always told that girls do better at school especially at such a young age. I was perplexed. A fellow teacher pointed out to me that my boys were doing so well because I'm a male teacher and I can relate to boys better. We need more male teachers in elementary school. Our boys need us to be positive role models. So many boys don't have positive role models in the age of single mother households. I'm truly glad to see pro athletes like LeBron James being the role models that young boys need. Good role models were so scarce for such a long time. The mens rights movement should never be about putting women down but lifting boys up. Im sick of the term toxic masculinity. Most of those "toxic" males come from fatherless homes and were not shown how to be real men. Men its important for us all to be the best we can be. Our boys need us so much!

And why the fuck isn't anything being done.

As long as women keep invading and policing spaces created by men for men, men will keep creating new spaces to move to.

Hope these young lads vigorously stick up for themselves.

As long as women keep invading and policing spaces created by men for men, men will keep creating new spaces.

But this is not a men's space. If it's on campus property I wonder if it will get shut down.

[–]pitstatic 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

It's become a space where the men hang out. Previously, they'd have hung out in an actual male space, they are 2+ generations removed from what I'm referring to, them congregating in a new male space is the result. Women of a certain stock generally do not like men congregating together without a mothering overseer.

Can't see it getting shut down, but can see campus feminists drumming up activism to claim the space.

This is why most of my college hangouts were off campus. We'd get a bunch of guys together and go to a dive bar deep in one of the worst neighborhoods. The barkeep and bouncers had our backs though because we went there all the time. It's funny, I always had more trouble at the college bar than at the ghetto dives.

[–]pitstatic 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

At ghetto dives, the potential threat is implicit. Don't fuck around, or fuck around and get ready for some confrontation. This doesn't really exist at a college bar, or is greatly diluted.

I draw a parallel with women not actually understanding how men communicate, size each other up, size up a room, spot danger, notice something brewing an hour before it kicks off. The threat is what keeps the peace, and men walk along a fine line of testing each other without coming to explicit confrontation.

[–]elebrin 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's what I like about them. Oh you'll see women there, but they are generally looking for what you might call... horizontal employment. They rarely have bands, they can't overcharge for their drinks, nobody in there wants to talk to you except the people you came with, and you can talk about whatever you want with your friends, with no intrusions.

[–]pitstatic 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yup.

As I said, the certain brand of women wants to infiltrate to check what the men are up to, police their speech and behaviour, mother the mob. Men generally want to be left the fuck alone to shoot the shit with their mates.

[–]elebrin 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, and the shitty thing is that it's still risky behavior. Those sorts of places aren't safe. The police could raid them for any variety of reasons resulting in arrest or (worse) a shootout. The drug dealers for the most part don't care, if anything you are a potential new customer.

But, if we don't have somewhere safe to go to get away every now and again, we go somewhere unsafe. That's why I could never live in a normal college town as an adult. I want to live in a real, permanent community. Somewhere like Ann Arbor has nowhere like that, that's quiet and safe where you can get away with your friends for a few hours.

Feminist in mentally fragile tyrant shocker.

[–]Vandechoz 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It needs to be nipped in the bud.

Way too late for that.

[–]Morgsz 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a father how do I counteract this.

I try so hard to instill self worth and constant positive re enforcment.... But it takes a toll being told you are terrible by society, authority figures, and school.

You are not a defective girl, you are awesome.

You don't need to feel sorry for their feelings.
