I know it's a little old, but I think it's worth looking back on, because the world hasn't changed. I still think we have a disdain for heterosexual men.

Men in bars (played by physical pigs) attempt to approach women and the women decline all of them

A pig goes into the bathroom, buys a condom, turns into a man, and comes back to be appreciatively oggled by his

date

Interpretations:

• Men who want to have sex with women without condoms (i.e. men who prioritize their own sexual

sensations over safety) are pigs

    ○ Trojan is not a nonprofit. Trojan is not trying to have a nationwide discussion about safety. The

commercial does not clearly tease out this point; I could only see it after thinking about it for 10 minutes to even

make the argument. Commercials do not succeed based on their subtlety, and it's ridiculous to assume that this

level of subtlety was actually Trojan's intention.

• Men who approach women are pigs • If you buy condoms, women won't treat you like a pig

Trojan knows that men are the primary purchasers of condoms, and Trojan knows that men feel like they're

treated like pigs if they even bring up sex with someone who (they find out after asking) isn't interested in them

(elevatorgate, anyone?). Men know that they feel demonized for being attracted to women, and the goal of the

commercial is to tell men that they can be sexually accepted in the way women demand that women be (fat

acceptance, anyone). All it takes? A trojan condom.

Trojan knows heterosexual males are demonized. Heterosexual males know their sexuality is demonized. With

mainstream commercials this bad (I believe this was in the superbowl), what is there to argue about?
