Last night I was at home and full of energy. I asked some friends if they could hang, but everyone was indisposed. So, I decided to take myself out and go bar hopping. Which, I've never done. I first hit a sports bar where I met another guy who was out on his own. We hit it off and decided to visit a few more places. Eventually, we wound up at classy little jazz bar. The bartender was a woman, knew my new friend, and seemed nice enough at first. She served me a scotch on the rocks and I told her I wouldn't be drinking much else since I needed to drive home. After some time hanging out and talking to some patrons, a couple of young ladies walked in. They sat at the end of the bar fairly close to me. I began chatting them up, and my new friend decided to play wing-man. I hit it off with them really well, and one gave me her phone number. My new friend decided his service was no longer needed and excused himself from the bar. I stayed and kept talking and bonding for quite some time, especially with one of the women. Another gentleman who the ladies knew appeared and we all chatted, sang a little, and continued getting to know one another. A few times the ladies even held my hand and hugged me. In a conversation with the barkeep, I learned she was a pretty good friend to these girls. I talked with her a bit, and the subject of sexual encounters came up, where I revealed that I've never been with any woman who I haven't cared very deeply for, and wasn't about to start. She told me she found that an admirable and intelligent way to go. The evening began to wind down and we were in the middle of last call. The one gentleman left and I began saying my goodbyes to the girl I had been mainly focusing on, when her friends went off to the restroom. I decided to wait so I could say good night to them as well, when the bartender said, "I think it's time for you to go." It was totally out of the blue. The way she said it obviously implied that she assumed I had something nefarious planned for her friends. All I wanted to do was say good night, possibly exchange some more info, and make sure the ladies got a cab as they had all had quite a bit to drink. I started to say this when the bartender interrupted, "She'll be fine with her friends. I'll watch her until they get out. Please leave." Not wanting to debate with her, I simply threw my hands up, gave my new lady friend a quick hug, and bounced. Let me be clear when I say that I had absolutely no intention to take anyone home. Let alone take advantage of anyone. On the walk back to my car, I felt completely dirty for the way I had been judged. Now, I'm aware that I was a new guy at the bar and the bartender may have just been looking out for her friends, but up to that point she had been entirely friendly to me. The swing in demeanor took me completely off guard, and the assumption of my intentions hurt. I'm very old fashioned, and like to think of myself as a gentleman. My intentions were probably on the exact opposite end of what this woman assumed, and it sucks that such a good time had to be punctuated by being badly profiled. I just wanted to sound off and hopefully get some feedback.
Edit/Update: So after a few days of thought I've decided a few things. a) I will be returning to the bar. I had a good time overall, and would really like to go back. Punishing myself for the foolish actions of one bartender is stupid. b) Upon going back, I will not bring up the incident. Even if the bartender is there. If she brings it up or causes a similar occurrence, I will address it then, and get management involved if necessary. c) After reading all of the responses on here and getting feedback from some friends (ranging from, "she was just being protective" to "you should have told her 'shut it and get me another pint bar-wench!'". Fucking love my friends.) I've decided that (while quite judgmental) her heart was likely in the right place. Hopefully, with time, she'll just get to know me and that first occurrence will be water under the bridge.
I'll post this down below as a comment and update again accordingly.
TL;DR: Went barhopping. Hit it off with some ladies. The female bartender and I got on pretty well too. She told me she was friends with the girls. I revealed that I'm entirely demisexual. The evening came to a close. I dragged my good bye out a bit so I could extend it to everyone when the barkeep rudely told me to leave, obviously assuming I planned to take advantage of her friends. I was in fact considering making sure the girls got to a cab OK. Thoughts?
