I get that men and women on average work different hours and aren't as eager to get promoted etc. my issues with the whole thing is that i can't seem to find any statistics supporting this.

That's not your job. It's THEIR job to provide you a study which controls for hours worked (the BOL study doesn't) if they want to prove "for the same job" (BTW, the BOL study does provide a "same job" number in it's report, and it's much closer than 77%, but even that one doesn't account for hours worked).

But if you really insist for yourself to have proof of men working more hours... guess what.. That's also in the BOL! The same study they use to prove the "wage gap" also demonstrates that the hours worked gap is larger than the earnings gap.

I always refer to it as the "gender choice gap", because it is nothing more than a measurement of the financial consequences that personal choices about work have. Women, on average, make different personal choices to those that men make. As a result, their average earnings are different.

When the 3 main personal choices about work are accounted for (choice of occupation, hours worked per week, length of experience) then the gender pay gap all but disappears. What's left is the "unexplained gender pay gap", which here in Australia is just 1.4% and in the UK is only 0.8%. Some portion of this figure may be due to sex discrimination, but there are other factors at play as well. (For example: men's commuting time is an average of 2 hours per week longer than women's commute time. Are men willing to travel further from home in order to get a better-paying job, and that's skewing the figures? We can't yet be sure.)

If feminists really cared about women's best interests, they should be celebrating this news. After all, it means that when a woman makes the same choices about work that a man makes, she earns the same as he does. Equality, yay! But feminists are not celebrating. Why? Because, as the saying goes, "Feminists only get paid when women are oppressed". Equal pay is great news for women, but terrible news for the feminists that women no longer need.

Here's a recent study (March 2016) based on a huge dataset (8.7 million employees across 33 countries). Feminists hate facts & figures at the best of times; they can't deal with this study at all. It's a great argument-stopper when it comes to the pay gap. Enjoy!

I would refer to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics. They have good stats on the rate of employment of various jobs, the pay rates, and almost certainly the demographics of each job sector.

Just make sure to track down the plain statistics. The Department of Labor also has an equal pay page, but it's the same misrepresentation of data and cherry picking of jobs that the rest of them do. So keep an eye out for that kind of agenda pushing.

My best advice is to ask them to provide proof. Ask them for a list of high powered jobs they have applied for and how many they have been turned down for. Insist on proof of application and the rejection letter. Ask if they do now get paid less than their male counterpart and ask for such proof.

If no evidence is given, then a pay gap does not exist. There is proof for everything financial. There is proof for every job application.
