Only three out of every 100 rapists will ever spend even a single day in prison, according to a new analysis by RAINN of Justice Department data. The other 97 will walk free, facing no consequences for the violent felony they have committed. Because rapists tend to be serial criminals, this leaves communities across the nation at risk of predators.

They make an interesting logical error in the very first paragraph. The 3 out of 100 statistic would only be true if every rapist did so only one single time as the data they use if focused on incidents of rape, not perpetrators. They contradict themselves by noting that most rapists are serial criminals.

But increasing reporting alone won't solve the problem: only about one out of four reported rapes leads to an arrest, and only about one out of four arrests leads to a felony conviction and incarceration.

This assumes that the other fifteen reported incidents were all guilty. That's a pretty insane stance, I agree. I remember meeting a guy when I worked in the jail that got arrested because he threw a roll of toilet paper at his girlfriend. He had several other arrests for domestic violence but no convictions. It made me think about how much one person that makes false claims can inflate statistics when you assume guilt like this does.

"This staggering statistic sends a clear message to offenders that they can commit this horrible crime and get away with it."

Actually, I might agree with this. It's a very great argument for RAINN not producing this statistic (or at least advocating it) through faulty logic. They may be intensifying a respectively minor problem by portraying it as this major.

I'm not sure this makes RAINN a hate group (they don't use any gendered language at all, fortunately) but it certainly makes them wrong.

FWIW, the name Amandagon sounds like a total troll naming itself after Amanda Marcotte of Pandagon.
