The short answer is we don't know and can't know the real number, whether 2%, 10%, 40% or whatever.

I'm sure someone here can supply you with the arguments/evidence for and against all the numbers. Also try the search bar.

You can find a study to support any number you want, it is a very difficult thing to investigate. Google false rape accusation, Wikipedia has a page listing the major studies.
Proven false accusations tend to be 2% but there will be an unknown and much larger number of unproven false accusations. Most researchers do not attempt to define the false rate, they just constrain it to within a bin of cases that are called "unfounded" or "no crime" in the UK. (Police have been proved to use these categories incorrectly in multiple jurisdictions, for political and operational reasons). These can be around 8% - 10% of cases reported to police.

Other studies give a higher rate. Some of them look higher but are not, e.g the 38% figure in the Wikipedia list is from a study based only on unfounded cases for example, not on all reported cases. So the rate found was 3.8%, if unfounded cases were 10% of reported cases.

If you just want a high number, Kanin's 41% is the one often quoted by MRAs. It is 4-5x higher than the rate accepted by most experts though, and his study is criticised for being non-replicable and having serious problems in its design.

Remember that rapes are seldom reported to police. The US NISVS shows 18% of people who had been raped reported it to police.

The FBI excluded 20% of the people named by the accusers on DNA evidence 20% of the time. Another 20% of tests were inconclusive, 20% of 20%~ 4%, 20%+4%= about 1/4 are false

Where sex was consensual and everyone admits it.., take your pick. As women aren't punished for false rape accusations is gonna be high.

I think 40% seems fair. There are just so many reasons to accuse someone of rape, including cockholding your BF/hubby. 16% of kids are not biologically related to the BF/hubby. That's a lot of lying needed to cover your tracks.
