Another subreddit about men's right just banned me for the post below. Reason: antifeminism. Please, can someone enlighten me, where's the antifeminism?
The manipulated man by Esther Villar / or how you see want you want to see, if you want really really bad.
For those who haven't read the book: IMHO, simply put, the author flips the coin of the extreme feminist narrative. Men are, and always have been, used as tools by women. They have the power but in such a sneaky smart way that men believe men have it. It's the willful slavery.
I read this book a few months ago and after this much time reflecting upon it I've got the conclusion that it doesn't even matter if what she says is true or not.
The most important thing I've learned is that if you want to see sexism, power struggle and oppression everywhere you definitely can write entire books with relatable content about it. It doesn't even matter who's the bad guy.
Like the newspaper horoscope, we've all had a few bad experiences sometime in our lives with the opposite sex to be able to think "oh god, it's true! This happened to me before (or to a friend). I am oppressed 🤯 I see clear now"
And this reaction, this feeling, is very tempting. It's comforting to be in the oppressed side. Suddenly you have a explanation for many (or all?) problems of your life. "It's not my fault, I'm a victim". It's nice to have a escape goat that prevents us from looking at the mirror and face the ugliest parts of ourselves, the inner demons, the shadow.
I'm in my late 30s now, I've been beaten enough by life to have built a strong humility sense to not be lured by this mermaid song. I know I would not have resisted when younger... and I know I'm not weaker-minded than the average person...
For sure, this book made me more skeptical about ideologies who claim some kind of oppressor-victim power play exists systematically/structurally in our society. Yes, life is hard. Yes, life is unfair. No, we are not perfectly balanced in every aspect of social life with the opposite sex. But it's more about fine tuning when we compare to 1000 years ago. For men and women.
