I can't speak for other jurisdictions, but California's safe haven law applies to 'parent or legal guardian'.

Thats good to hear. I think.
[–]formerlydeaddd 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
wait, from what I've heard, a woman cannot utilize the safe haven drop off law if the paternal parent is willing to raise the child alone?

That’s assuming she even told him.

To be honest, seeing both sides of the argument it’s difficult not to be caught in a logical fallacy about either side. There is a hell of a lot of human emotion involved even prior to considering the life created at the end of pregnancy.
I have seen the effects of divorce and read on illegal paternity testing in France, leading to an assumption of the general public financing a government sponsored program for youth unclaimed by their biological parents is most likely the outcome of situations involving unwanted pregnancies. This seems like a difficult jump from teen pregnancy to unplanned pregnancy to infidelity. All of which involve very complicated social and intimate encounters that can murk what law would demand be clear waters.
Speaking on men’s rights in general, I have seen it bestowed in both the men’s and women’s side. I would end that sentence with equally, but I have seen the vindictive nature of both. There seems to be an imbalance of justice in favor of the best actor, rather than the interests of the child to be born. Men’s rights to actively participate in their children’s lives suffer based on this premise. Whether the man seeks custody, or to relieve themselves of a financial burden and wins seems to result in a negative image, even in the eyes of their children. Parents playing the blame game with their estranged spouses causes psychological impacts on the perception of their biological parents that is cemented in the growth during the years of trial and fighting between.
There is no true one fits all answer to any one given situation in both pregnancy and custody arguments. And as such, each case must be reviewed individually. An argument can be made to educate youth in their teens about these realities. But it can also be argued that introducing these topics would also be detrimental to their perception of their own lives or environment.
The harsh reality is that males accept the majority of responsibility in many cases and are dismissed irrevocably as the responsible party financially. This is in large part due to the statistically backed sexual dynamic of male to female relationships. Fighting nature is simply difficult, in a fashion that civilized society has yet to accomplish mastery of. The massive weight of allegations against or for men leads to an endless debate of responsibility.

Let's keep the focus on mens issues rather than dissing women.

How do you possibly solve the issue of abortion rights for men? I can't genuinely think of a way of enforcing that without horrible disregard for the woman's body.
[–]problematic_coagulum 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Simple, financial abortion. A man should have just as much right to end his responsibility as a woman.
[–]AkariSarzul 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Can you elaborate what finanicial abortion means?
[–]problematic_coagulum 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The father renounces responsibility and rights to a child such that he has no obligation to provide for the child financially and no right to demand custody.

...three way vote. The kid, the mother, and the father. /s
In all seriousness though it is kind of difficult to force a women to have a kid and not make it seem...fucked up?
[–]AkariSarzul 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Or even to force a woman to have an abortion. A lot of the issues highlighted in the image are valid but also extremely difficult to solve. I think a court process to force abort/continuing with the birthing process might be a dangerous precedent. It's quite an unfortunate situation that will need some serious moral debating.
[–]Salty_Cnidarian 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. It seems as if in order to not impede on someone’s right in cases like these then another persons right will.
Probably one of the first arguments to where it may seem fair, but is still very morally arguable is:
The government decides which way a child will lean in decision process and the mother/father will go to court from there.
So, let’s say “Child has extreme genetic issues, mother wants abortion while father will not” the government can act on a behalf of the child and say “the child wishes to be aborted” and then the parents go to court where a jury decides.
However the problem with this is that an entity is assuming (can’t think of the word I’m looking for) control of a person, and also with the case above it also seems like the government is weaning out the “weak” kind of what Adolf Hitler did which is also fucked up.
All of this is so hard.

The sad thing is, even when it comes to prevention, women have all the options. Then pair that with the fact the father should have a say if HIS child should get killed via abortion. I believe that if she wants an abortion he sure as hell should get a say. He should also have the rights to a paper abortion to. But I love your last bit about disregarding her body. It is not “her body her choice” at that point. A living being is inside her and it is no longer just her body
