Naw it is. I've been in a Twitter argument were two dumbasses think that men are 100 percent at fault for abortions. You can't make this shit up

I took the article as making a statement about the motivations of pro life activists. It didn't seem to me like it was saying that "fighting the patriachy" isn't a motivation of many pro choice activists.

If someone believes abortion is murder, how do you defeat that argument? You can't. It's much easier to demonize the anti-abortion position and frame it as evil men trying to control women's bodies.

It's not that hard before 24 weeks, the problem is the left is pushing for abortion until birth and that position is impossible to hold. And before one of you idiots tell me "no they aren't" NY and Colorado past a bill that as long as the "health" of the mother would be impacted (not fatal just something would happen like getting anxiety from motherhood) then they can get an abortion pre-birth. You also have the Virginia governor talking about post birth abortion. But that is getting completely missed for some reason.

Of course it's about the patriarchy.

Also about the patriarchy: highway tolls, Estonian grammar textbooks, FDA drug trials, artistic glass-blowing, the 2017 World Judo Championships held in Budapest and pico de gallo.

As a note to people reading the article, I think that whenever the article uses the term "liberal feminist", it is being used to mean a feminist who also happens to be liberal as opposed to the classical meaning of the term "liberal feminist".

Abortion has become political. Its become a dog whistle for both conservative voters and liberal voters. And all Trump and his cohort are doing is wetting the panties of their base while rustling them for their opponents.

Alabama's law will not pass court challenge and will be struck down.

[–]Xxtourlife 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And all Trump and his cohort are doing is

  • Supporting Israel in the Middle East
  • Creating Tarriffs that will affect every by increasing prices by 20%

What a time to be alive...

Abort patriarchy

How do you abort a ghost? How do you kill that which has no life?

[–]practeerts 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I've always seen it as a socioeconomic debate. I'm not sure what the article is trying to focus in on, it seemed like fluff underneath "this isn't about gender."

[–]DignifiedAlpaca[S] 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I interpreted it to be saying that people who claim that pro life activists tend to be motivated by a desire to control women's bodies are incorrect. I think it is just trying to say that the primary motivation for most pro life activists is a desire to protect the life of the unborn.

I think it's simply some people - mostly women - using feminism to promote the idea they have the right to choose who lives and who dies.

[–]DubsPackage -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bingo

They want power over life and death.

I don't know if I would call that patriarchy, personally. I just call it freedom to choose your occupation, but for some reason some people get worked up if they see that there is more of one gender in an occupation than another. But that's just as arbitrary is saying there should be an equal distribution of tall and short people, loud and quiet people, etc. Too many people confuse equal freedom of opportunity with forcing equal outcomes, which would actually restrict people's choices since they might not always choose the occupation the central planners had decided on for them.

When it comes to abortion, I'm a bit mixed on the subject, I do agree that if a woman gets an abortion, its better to do so before the first heartbeat. I also believe that abortion should be allowed only if the woman was raped or if giving birth to the child will somehow harm the mother. If the woman gets pregnant and there are too many problems in her life and she can't take care of the child with her significant other, then they should put the child up for adoption. I also believe that abortion shouldn't be completely illegal throughout the United States but I also believe that Planned Parenthood shouldn't receive people's taxes and it shouldn't be funded by the government, I believe that the woman should pay for it herself instead. I also believe that abortion shouldn't be overdone (like the woman getting an abortion every time she gets pregnant). I hope some can understand where I'm coming from or what I'm trying to say.

On another post I made related to the topic, someone pointed out that placing a restriction based on if the mother was raped is more complicated than it sounds since you have to consider what happens if she doesn't have any proof. There are two possible ways of handling it. One way is that if a woman claims she was raped but she doesn't have any proof, then she can't have an abortion in that case, which would result in a lot of raped women not being able to have an abortion. The other possiblity is to take her word for it and let her have the abortion, but then that could incentivize someone to lie about being raped. I am not sure which option these new laws that they are passing lately choose to take.

it shouldn't be funded by the government, I believe that the woman should pay for it herself instead

Assuming you are talking about the United States, the Hyde Amendment currently places some limits on the circumstances under which the federal government provides financial assistance for abortions.
