It's already known that teachers often discriminate against boys, giving them worse graders or disciplining them more for the same work or behavior as girls. This is often due to boys misbehaving more, so teachers give boys and girls different grades or different punishments for the same work or behavior, favoring the girls. Boys drop out more, and they are less likely to go to college. Now, women go to college more, and are more likely to have a master's degree or a doctoral degree. Back in the day, men went to college more, but most people didn't go back then. Then, when college became more normalized, women went to college more.

A study found that men were actually just as willing to participate in jobs like elementary school teaching, nursery, etc. when they heard of no discrimination against men in those fields. The reason why men were less willing to have those jobs was because those jobs often have discrimination against them. Male nurses face more bullying than female nurses and male elementary school teachers face workplace discrimination and negative stereotypes. In fact, long ago, school teachers were typically men. Then, it all changed. It's not biological.

Also, historically, education was a punishment that taught discipline, not facts, and corporal punishment was used on boys much more, and boys were subjected to forced labor. This was meant for build character and discipline in children. Women weren't educated because it was believed they were less prone to bad behavior and didn't need to be educated. There was only a small overlap between education becoming useful for learning things, and women not being allowed to be educated. Later on, corporal punishment and forced labor declined in schools, but the school environment has traits that benefit girls more, which I'll get to in a bit. It was actually seen as unmanly for boys to be willing to learn.

Even in the later 19th century, girls performed better than boys in elementary schools and outnumbered them, and even in the early 1900s, when high school became more common, girls went to high school more often. Girls even had free education whereas boys in high school had to have their parents pay a fee. You can read more about this from the book The Privileged Sex.

The reason why boys misbehave or fail in school more? People's negative expectations of boys made boys fail more, being a self-fulfilling prophecy. Another big factor is that school environments benefit girls more than boys. Girls are more interested in listening and interactions in classrooms whereas boys like movements, mechanical manipulation, release of aggression, hands-on activity, etc. Sitting and listening all day is difficult for them.
