So many people trying to define it by traits and behaviors. Even in the gay community, masc is a look and a sound.
Masculinity is none of those things. It's a presence from within. A power. A force of nature.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have described or imagined myself to be masculine. It just kinda happened to me. Now that it's here? If never give it up.
Here's why 'they' don't like masculinity. We are no longer push overs. They can't get away with their incessant tantrums in the presence of a man who's seen better, knows better, and is better. We force them to take accountability. I'm OK with that now.

Masculinity in itself is not a bad thing.
By “they” I assume you mean feminists as not liking masculinity, which is also wildly incorrect.
Masculinity in itself isint harmful. It’s the type of masculinity that perpetuates harmful things such as men as being more qualified to lead because they are “less emotional” (this is ironic because toxic masculinity also perpetuates the idea that men cannot be emotional). And before you get yourself worked up, I’m well aware that the term “toxic masculinity” is very triggering for the vast amount of people in this group. Which is fine.
But no, masculinity in itself is not the problem and never has been.
As for the “we are no longer push overs”. I VERY much doubt anyone but you would ever label men collectively as pushovers, in the past or in the present. Quite the contrary, I would say many people have labeled men as being overbearing.
I think you are mixing your own very individualized complexes in with reality.

Being triggered is a valid reason.

Oh I fully intend to continue to use the term. Don’t be mistaken about that. Just because it pisses off the people in this sub doesn’t mean I have any intentions of not using it.
At the end of the day it’s a necessary term, that is necessary to discuss. Because it exists, plain and simple. To not label it is counterproductive.
I don’t think I’d say it’s scientific. Who can really say studies have been done in it. No, toxic masculinity is a term wrought from shared experiences by a vast group of people over a sustained period of time. That shared experience being that there are certain “traits” people (particularly men) encourage and defend that are more or less tied to masculinity, except they are toxic.
Masculinity in itself is not toxic. Very important to have a balance.
