Yeah but that doesn't tell you enough. Men also probably get many % more costly speeding fines than women for the same crime of speeding. Yet they were probably breaking the speed limit by 2x or 3x more than the women in most cases, since men tend to drive more aggressively and subsequently get into more serious car accidents. I would wager the 'same crime' was committed more heinously on average by men, given that men tend to commit more serious crimes generally speaking. It is not to say that there isn't bias in the sentencing, and I have seen many overly light sentences for women that make me want to shout about the injustice. The amount of women that get away with manslaughter or murder on overly light sentences for instance is truly unjust. But part of the sentencing disparity will be due to men committing more violent versions of the same crime that women do (e.g. an assault by a man without a weapon will almost always deal more damage than the same assault by a woman due to the physical differences), so the sentencing statistic should be used with caution.
