This already has a name. It's a male stereotype. A stereotype often used by misandrists to demean men and project the myth that men are the stereotype rather than the victims of stereotyping.

Women can be just as toxic as men, and can result in the same perpetuation of violence and useless machismo behavior.

Of course, whenever a woman engages in behavior that contributes toward a cycle of violence and useless machismo attitudes, such as creating standards for her "man" about what he will and will not do to stand up for her or up to other men, it's not the woman's fault. It's men's fault because their own toxic masculinity influenced her.

Like women have no free will of their own, let alone any sense of personal responsibility.

The reality of "toxic masculinity" is that you're absolutely correct--global society places demands on men to retain certain characteristics in order to be considered a "man." And American society certainly creates unrealistic expectations for men, which no one questions.

When men face unfair expectations of their gender roles, that's life. But when women perceive they are facing unfair expectations of their gender roles, that's the patriarchy.

The best counter to this bullshit is to say that society is toxic. And people are fucking naive to believe otherwise.

What some people call toxic masculinity nowadays usually just refers to negative aspects of being trained as a man. It’s not necessarily wrong to call these aspects toxic, but a more apt description would require a full description rather than buzzwords. Saying Toxic Masculinity implies somebody is so masculine it actively makes them a worse person.
